The Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce: Looking Back on 2023 2023 has been a busy, unique, and most of all, exciting year for the Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce! Throughout the year, we celebrated the centennial anniversary of the Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce and its one-hundred years of our support to the community. The official celebration of the anniversary was held on August 23 at the Warehime-Myers Mansion and was attended by various local and state representatives and speakers, including Kevin Courtois, Vice President, Great Lakes Region of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber also finalized its 2023-2025 Strategic Plan. The plan includes seven main goals which correspond with the mission of serving and advocating for our members and delivering value to the Hanover business community. Our Strategic Plan reflects the Chamber's vision of advancing the greater Hanover area's economy and develop and improve our workforce with the objective of a thriving community at the forefront of our work. The Chamber also welcomed several new faces to their staff. Katie Bream joined as the new Marketing & PR Manager in April, bringing with her a masters degree in Marketing. She has so far refreshed many aspects of our visual identity and our marketing materials. New hires Melissa Goodwin and Jake Taylor joined the Chamber as the Administrative Coordinator and the Member & Community

Relations Manager, respectively (read more about Melissa and Jake on pg. 5). And Sarah Messer, previously Director of Operations, was promoted to Vice President as a result of her unwavering dedication to her duties at the Chamber. Additionally, Leadership Hanover's graduating class of 2023 boasted the largest class we have had thus far! We were pleased to see such a level of interest and engagement in this program, and we hope this trend continues for years to come. The Chamber would like to thank all of our members, sponsors, and supporters for everything you have contributed to make this year a great one! Happy holiday season, and we look forward to an exciting 2024!

The Chamber Welcomes Two New Staff Members: Melissa Goodwin and Jake Taylor

Meet Our Board! Jon Harris, Private Banking Relationship Manager at M&T Bank

The Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the hire of two new employees that will fill the positions of Administrative Coordinator and Member & Community Relations Manager.

"My name is Jon Harris and I have served on the Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors for the past year. I am a Commercial and Private Banking Relationship Manager at M&T Bank. I provide loans and services that meet the needs of local businesses and residents. M&T was founded in 1856 and is one of the top 20 largest banks in the country. M&T is large enough to deliver the products and resources of a big bank but focus on a community bank level.

The Chamber welcomes Melissa Goodwin who was hired in midOctober of this year as the new Administrative Coordinator. Melissa brings a diverse skill set and experience in office administration. Prior to joining the Chamber’s staff, she worked for several years as a clerk with Adams County Government. She is extremely excited to start this new chapter and to work with the incredibly talented team at the Chamber. Melissa enjoys traveling, going to concerts and spending time with family and friends. The Chamber would also like to announce the hire of Jacob (Jake) Taylor as the new Member & Community Relations Manager who joined us at the end of October. Jake is a York County native who received his bachelor's degree from York College of Pennsylvania. Prior to joining the Chamber team, he managed district outreach for Congressman Lloyd Smucker in his Hanover office. Jake is excited to continue making connections in the Hanover area and looks forward to serving as a strong voice for our business community. In his free time, Jake enjoys hiking, traveling, cooking, and spending time with his friends and family. We are excited to have both talented individuals on board!

I was motivated to become a member of the Board through my years of service to the Hanover Community and the desire to give back to the community that I live in. The Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce brings value to the individual community member, business owner, and local economy through their Leadership Hanover Program and Workforce Development Program. I am a graduate of the Leadership Hanover Program, and it opened my eyes to the potential and opportunity all around Hanover. Leadership Hanover allowed me to grow my internal network while discovering more about my neighborhood. The Workforce Development Program helps link opportunities between the skilled labor needs of businesses and manufacturers in the area and takes those opportunities to local schools. The most impactful aspect of serving on the board for a non-profit is the ability to generate enthusiasm about our mission and services, while explaining the value and impact it will have in the community. I enjoy Hanover as a community because no matter how much the community grows and takes in new members, we all continue to look out for each other as a small town would. Some of my favorite things to do in the area are kayaking in Codorus State Park, listening to our live bands, and attending our festivals/cookoffs." Thank you, Jon, for sharing a bit about yourself!

Turning Hanover into a York County Trail Town In conjunction with Main Street Hanover initiatives, the York County Rail Trail Authority (YCRTA) has come up with a plan to turn Hanover into a “Trail Town” as part of the York County Trail Towns Program. The goal is to ultimately construct a tenfoot-wide walking and biking trail from Hanover all the way to Spring Grove and beyond. We had the opportunity to speak with a volunteer of YCRTA to gather this information. There are several sections of the trail that have already been completed. The hope of the YCRTA is that it will be completed 3-4 years from this time. Within the next 18 months, the YCTRA plans to fully connect the existing Hanover Trolley Trail to the Jacobs Mill area, north of Route 116. The benefits of the completion of the trail extend far beyond just a means of getting outdoors. The creation of the trail and its use by the community will improve the quality of life for residents and offer another opportunity for physical activity. The trail will also offer economic benefits as it will attract visitors and tourists to Hanover and possibly new residents. With an increase in residents, we will have more individuals joining our workforce, which will help push forward Hanover’s economy and aid in talent recruitment. Since the trail will connect Hanover to Spring Grove, opening up a path of non-

motorized travel to Hanover’s downtown. Furthermore, Spring Grove is in the process of being connected to West Manchester, lengthening the overall trail and the increasing opportunity for a broader exchange of visitors. Lastly, part of the plan for constructing this trail includes a restoration effort of the natural landscape that runs along the trail. For example, the YCRTA aims to fix a portion of the Oil Creek Watershed that has been damaged by erosion. The YCRTA is volunteer led and aims to use locally sourced materials for the overall project, making this a win-win for our community and business community. The greater Hanover area is excited for the trail and all of the benefits it will bring to the area!

BUSINESS BRIEFS RING CONTAINER TECHNOLOGIES RECIEIVES 2023 ECOVADIS PLATINUM MEDAL Throughout Ring’s history, innovation has been integral to our mission and values as we always push to be at the forefront of the industry, developing and designing cost-effective sustainable products that exceed our customers’ expectations. Ring has worked hard to amplify and exhibit our sustainability initiatives so that we may be recognized globally for our remarkable efforts. We have done this by collaborating with a reputable third-party organization, EcoVadis, to conduct a comprehensive self-assessment that evaluates Rings sustainability principles to ensure a positive impact on our business, taking into consideration environmental impact, labor practices, ethics, and sustainable procurement. Ring has been making submissions on this platform since 2019, each year earning us recognition for our efforts. This year, I am proud to announce that Ring Container Technologies was awarded the Platinum Medal for our 2023 EcoVadis submission. Our score puts us in the top 1% of all companies rated by EcoVadis, which is over 30,000 companies globally. This would not have been possible without the incredible efforts of our steering committee, guidance from our governance team, and support from our plants and HQ departments. -Denise Conrad, Ring Container BOROUGH OF HANOVER UNVEILS PLANS FOR ENHANCED MUNICIPAL FACILITIES

Hanover, Pa. – The Borough of Hanover is committed to enhancing the quality of life for its residents and fostering a sense of community by providing efficient, accessible, and innovative public services. Several scenarios to achieve that end have been evaluated, most recently the relocation of the public works campus to Cougar Drive and the creation of a new administrative / public safety building on North Street. While that plan was under consideration, an unexpected, viable and cost-effective option became available. Therefore, the Hanover Borough Council is pleased to announce its intent to acquire the TrueNorth Wellness Services facility, located at 33 Frederick Street, across from the main Borough building at 44 Frederick Street. Upon the completion of renovations, 33 Frederick Street will serve as the new Public Administration Facility, while the current building at 44 Frederick Street will become the Borough’s Public Safety Facility, creating a Downtown Municipal Center and keeping key services centered downtown. These two projects cumulatively represent a significant milestone in our ongoing dedication to serving our vibrant and growing community. The new Public Administration Facility will offer an array of modern amenities and services. This historic building has previously undergone comprehensive renovations to meet contemporary building standards for security and accessibility. Additional proposed improvements include but are not limited to: • Renovated lobby area redesigned for enhanced functionality and public access.

9

• Improved office spaces to ensure efficiency and comfort for our dedicated public servants. • Meeting space equipped with modern audiovisual, lighting, and security features for productive gatherings. • Community-friendly facilities consisting of multiple rooms available for community use, training, events, and more, addressing the void of available space in the current Borough Hall. • Dedicated resident and business suite for residents and businesses to manage permit and code enforcementrelated needs. The current Borough building situated at 44 Frederick Street will undergo a comprehensive "wall-to-wall" renovation to create a new Public Safety Facility. This modernized facility will provide critical updates, ensuring the safety and efficiency of public services, including but not limited to: • Emergency Operations Center will provide a central hub for Borough leadership and public safety officials to manage natural disasters and emergency incidents. • Hanover Area Fire and Rescue will secure space for the fire chief and support staff, facilitating faster response and coordination. • Enhanced evidence storage and processing space will ensure the integrity and security of evidence. Improved officer wellness and training facilities will prioritize the well-being and proficiency of our law enforcement and public safety officers.

BUSINESS BRIEFS

• Enhanced criminal processing facilities will enable the efficient handling of detainees before their transfer to offsite detention facilities. The project is estimated to cost $11 million, generously supported by a $5.5 million Pennsylvania State RACP grant and a $5.5 million capital building reserve fund, primarily funded by federal ARPA/ Covid allocations. The finalization of facility locations marks the end of a thorough three-year process undertaken by Borough staff and the Hanover Borough Council Public Works and Facilities Committee. The next phase will focus on the design and renovation of 33 Frederick Street, set to commence construction in the first quarter of the upcoming year, with an expected completion date in late 2024 or early 2025. Work on the Public Safety Facility will kick off in mid-2024, with construction scheduled to start in early 2025. Though other plans were considered, including moving the Public Works campus to Cougar Drive and building a new administrative / public safety facility on North Street, relocating services to the property at 33 Frederick Street promises to efficiently serve both the short and long-term needs of Hanover Borough residents and business owners, all while maintaining a downtown presence at the heart of our community and easy access to public works services on North Street. With these projects moving forward, staff will continue their efforts to identify needed improvements and potential facilities for both the Public Works Department and the Water Resources Department. These future

capital building projects will address necessary upgrades to Hanover’s infrastructure systems, as well as improved amenities for Borough staff of both departments. CHEERS TO BREWERY TOURS! 5 YEARS OF CRAFT BEER EXPERIENCES AND EXPANSION INTO LANCASTER COUNTY. Central PA - Thursday, October 26, 2023 - It was five years ago on a crisp fall afternoon in south-central Pennsylvania that Brewery Tours welcomed its first gathering of craft beer aficionados and novices, a like, to experience craft beer in a new and exciting way. The group wound its way along the streets of downtown York City, led by a knowledgeable and experienced Beer Guide who regaled them with stories of York’s historic past as they made their way to the first of three independent craft breweries where the group enjoyed guided tastings of a variety of craft beer styles and a behind-the-scenes tour of the brewhouse. Since launching its Original Walking Tour in 2018, Brewery Tours has steadily expanded its craft beer experiences to include a fleet of Brew Buses that traverse the amazing York County craft beer scene, which is home to 32 craft breweries, its quarterly Ales on the Rails collaboration with the historic Northern Central Railway, and a robust group and charter line. “Brewery Tours was born from my passion for craft Beer,” said its Founder, Glenn J. Smith, “and a belief that craft beer was meant to be experienced.” Glenn continued, “I created Brewery Tours as a tourism

and economic driver designed to capitalize on the national ‘Beercation’ trend.” Since launching, Brewery Tours’ exclusive, educational and entertaining craft beer experiences have become nationally recognized, drawing guests from around the country who have rewarded Brewery Tours with a 5-Star Rating and named it one of the Best of the Best Local Tourist Attractions for three years running. Glenn explained, “our craft beer experiences and unwavering advocacy for this amazing craft beer region has caused significant economic impact with our guests contributing tourism dollars to our area hotels, restaurants, stores, attractions, and, of course, breweries!” In celebration of its five year anniversary, Brewery Tours is also happy to announce the addition of a walking tour of Lancaster City to its craft beer experience offerings. Guests on this walk-a-bout will visit three of Lancaster City’s craft breweries while enjoying guided craft beer tastings of twelve different craft beers with behind-the-scenes access, local and historical anecdotes, and more… all led, of course, by their knowledgeable and experienced Beer Guides!
