HOLIDAY
First 1 Tevye’s Thanksgiving
In honor of Fiddler on the Roof’s return to Broadway in November, the Museum at Eldridge Street invites families to celebrate Thanksgiving while learning about Tevye and his spirited daughters. Youngsters can twist challah dough into a fiddle shape, make musicthemed crafts and follow lyrical clues through the synagogue on a scavenger hunt. On their quest for prizes, they’ll hunt down a very special turkey and hear stories about giving thanks,
then join in on a Fiddler singalong. 12 Eldridge St (212219-0888, eldridgestreet .org). Nov 22 at 11am; $15 family. Ages 5 and up.
2 Gingerbread Lane
No matter how crafty you are, your at-home efforts will pale in comparison to this Guinness World Record– winning gingerbread metropolis made from more than 600 pounds of dough and 750 pounds of candy. The 500-square-foot village features sweet additions, like a double-decker carousel, two trains, a candy factory and
S.C. Kringle & Co., an edible riff on the historic Gimbels department store. Come by on January 10 to take a sweet structure home (line opens at noon, giveaway starts at 1pm). New York Hall of Science, 47-01 111th St, Queens (718-699-0005, nysci.org). Nov 13–Jan 10 10am–6pm, closed Thanksgiving and Christmas; $15, children ages 2–17 $12. Ages 2 and up.
Thanksgiving 3 Macy’s Day Parade For the 89th year, giant balloons, festive floats, high-
kicking Rockettes and Santa’s sleigh flood NYC streets in their grand procession from Central Park to Herald Square. Rise early and bundle up to nab a spot along the parade route to see live performances, celebrity appearances and favorite inflatables like Paddington, Pikachu and the fierce Skylanders Eruptor. Little gamers will want to keep an eye out for this year’s newcomer—a 45.5-foot Angry Bird named Red, guarding his precious egg like a football during the big Turkey Day game. Starts on Central Park
