Since its debut in 2011, and the successful outcome of the last MEPEC, held in September 2015, MEPEC has grown considerably in terms of both the number of visitors and delegates, along with the size of the exhibition and conference. This motivated the officers of the Saudi Section of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (SAS-AIChE) to not only organize the fourth edition but also expand its scope in the process.

Speakers: Ahmad A. Al Sa’adi Senior Vice President, Technical Services, Saudi Aramco Ahmad A. AI-Sa’adi was appointed Senior Vice President of Technical Services on December 16, 2015, effective January 1, 2016. AI-Sa’adi heads Saudi Aramco Engineering Services, Project Management, Procurement & Supply Chain Management and Information Technology. In this capacity, he directs approximately 7,500 employees and oversees more than $100 billion in capital expenditures. AI-Sa’adi oversees the direction of corporate environmental and occupational health policies and provides guidance to management as to the impact of environmental trends.

In July 2010, AI-Sa’adi became the Vice President of Gas Operations, headquartered in Udhailiyah, and led a complex organization which consisted of seven gas processing centers capable of processing a total of 12 billion scfd.

Prior to this, he was the Vice President of Pipelines, Distribution & Terminals, which operated more than 50 facilities Kingdom-wide.

AI-Sa’adi held the position of the Chief Engineer of Saudi Aramco and prior to that he was the President and CEO for Aramco Gulf Operations Company (AGOC), and Chairman of the Executive Committee, providing policy and direction to AI -Khafji Joint Operations. Al Sa’adi is also a member of the Saudi Aramco Management Committee.

Fahad M. Al-Dawood Vice President - COTC, Innovation and Business Development, SABIC Fahad Al Dawood is the Vice President of COTC in Innovation & Business Development Division of Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC), Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

He has 21 years of experience in the Petrochemical industry. He assumed many leadership responsibilities when he was assigned to United Affiliate as GM, Operations. He then moved to Petrokemya Co. as GM, Hydrocarbons Operations and thereafter was promoted to lead SABIC Terminal Services Co., SabTank, as President.

He was assigned to lead the Olefins & Gases Division post his promotion as Vice President in the Chemical SBU of SABIC. In January 2017 he was given the major task of leading the COTC joint project between SABIC and Saudi Aramco representing SABIC as a Vice President.

He has been a member on the Board of companies like ChemTank, Kemeya, Yanpet and Saudi Kayan.

Bakheet Al-Rashidi Chairman, GDA & President, Kuwait Petroleum International Ltd Bakheet Al-Rashidi is Chief Executive Officer of KPC Holdings-Aruba and President of Kuwait Petroleum International. During his tenure, he has led KPI’s major projects to success, namely the Nghi Son Refinery Project in Vietnam; the acquisition of Shell assets in Italy; the sale of Europoort refinery in the Netherlands; the substantial expansion of operations in Q8Aviation and Q8Oils; and the recent JV with Oman Oil Company on Duqm Refinery.

A graduate of Alexandria University in Chemical Engineering, Al-Rashidi has more than 30 years of experience in the refining industry. He began his career in Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC), the domestic downstream arm of the Kuwaiti oil industry, and headed several functions, ranging from operational planning to technical services to corporate planning. He held the position of Deputy Chairman and Deputy Managing Director for Planning & Local Marketing of KNPC from 2007 till 2013.

He was a Board Member of Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), the upstream arm, from July 2011 to July 2012, and the Chairman & Managing Director of Kuwait Aromatics (KARO), a local joint venture, from 2009 till 2012.

Transformation from Volume to Value Moderator: Hussain A. Al Qahtani President, SASREF - Saudi Aramco Shell Refinery Company Mr. Hussain Al-Qahtani is the President of Saudi Aramco Shell Refinery (SASREF).

He joined SASREF in 2016, conveying more than 25 years of oil & energy industry leadership, technical & refinery operations expertise and executive management experience to the company. As the President of SASREF, Mr. Hussain’s responsibility includes leading the strategic growth and development of the company as well as overseeing the Company’s financial and operating performancein line with the Kingdom’s vision on economic and nation’s growth.

The aforementioned role was preceded by, Mr. Al-Qahtani’s role as the Director of Joint Ventures Management Department under Domestic Refining and NGL Fractionation Admin Area at Saudi Aramco.

His role entailed managing a portfolio of the domestic Saudi Aramco Joint Venture Companies including JVs with ExxonMobile, Shell, Total, Sinopec, and others.

Prior to that, Mr. Hussain was the Manager, Process & Control System Department (P&CSD) at Saudi Aramco.

P&CSD’s function is to provide the customer with cost effective and innovative technical solutions in respects of process engineering and process automation. This is achieved through leadership in technology transfer, research and development, engineering standards and facility planning to optimize assets and operations for improved performance.

Before that, Mr. Al-Qahtani served as Yanbu Refinery Department Manager and the Manager of Saudi Aramco’s Oil Supply planning & Scheduling Department (OSPAS).

Mr. Al-Qahtani received a BSc. degree in Chemical Engineering from King Fahad University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM) and has accomplished various Aramco Executive management programs.

Speakers: Jonathan Forbes Lane General Manager EMEAR, CRI Criterion Catalyst Co Ltd. After graduating in chemistry from Oxford University, UK, in 1987, he joined Shell Chemicals, where his first assignment was to sell solvents to paint companies in the North West of England. Subsequently, Jonathan worked in several of Shell’s chemical businesses, including higher olefins and base chemicals, and held posts in the UK, the Netherlands and the USA. He was part of the divestment team that sold Shell’s 50% share in the Basell polyolefins joint venture with BASF in 2005.

Since 2010, Jonathan has worked in Shell’s catalyst businesses: first with CRI Catalyst Company, where he ran the regional ethylene oxide catalyst business. His focus then switched from petrochemicals to refining when he assumed his current role with Criterion in 2013.

Speakers: Ziad Al-Labban Former CEO, Sadara Chemical Company Ziad Al-Labban was Sadara Chemical Company’s Chief Executive Officer and brings with him over 30 years of experience in the oil, gas and petrochemical industries, both in the upstream and downstream sectors.

Prior to joining Sadara, Ziad was President and CEO of Petro Rabigh, a 400,000 barrel per day integrated refinery-petrochemical plant in Rabigh, Saudi Arabia, which came on-stream the year he joined. He served in this capacity from August 2009 until September 2012.

During his tenure at Petro Rabigh, the Company realized a positive net profit each year for 2010, 2011 and 2012.

Before Petro Rabigh, Ziad served as President and CEO of Saudi Refining, Inc. (SRI), in Houston, Texas, from August 2007 through July 2009. During that time, he was responsible for managing SRI’s interest in Motiva Enterprises, which is a major US refiner with three refineries supported by a marketing network that includes approximately 8,000 Shell branded gasoline retail outlets in the southern and eastern United States.

Ziad’s 30+ year career with Saudi Aramco has taken him through a broad range of responsibilities. This has included work experience in other companies where he was seconded, including a year-long assignment with Exxon Production and Research Company in Houston, Texas in 1984 and a 3-year assignment as Vice President of Corporate Planning for Petron Corporation in the Philippines starting in 1998. During his tenure in the Philippines, Ziad was also a director on Petron›s Board and Chairman of Ovincor, an insurance subsidiary of Petron located in Bermuda.

Ziad holds a BSc in Electrical Engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Saudi Arabia, and an MSc in Petroleum Engineering from Stanford University.

Guy Lewis Vice President, Strategic Marketing & Planning, UOP, A Honeywell Co. Guy Lewis serves as Vice President of Strategic Marketing and Commercial Excellence for Honeywell’s UOP, a global leader in the supply of process technology, catalysts, engineered systems, and technical and engineering services to the refining, petrochemical, chemical, and gas processing and hydrogen industries. UOP has been creating world-class innovative solutions for its customers for over 100 years. Prior to his current role, Guy was Strategic Marketing Director for UOP’s Gas Processing & Hydrogen business. Before joining Honeywell’s UOP in 2012, Guy served as Executive Director for Strategic Growth Initiatives and Managing Director for Unconventional Gas at the Gas Technology Institute (GTI). Prior to joining GTI in 2007, he held a number of positions of increasing responsibility at BP during his nearly 30-year tenure, including Vice President for U.S. Retail Strategy and Planning, Vice President for Commercial Business Solutions, Vice President for U.S. Marketing Fuel Supply, and Superintendent of Economics & Scheduling at BP’s Whiting Refinery.

Guy holds an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago and a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Northwestern University.

Antonio Pietri CEO, AspenTech Antonio Pietri is President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of AspenTech, and also serves on the company’s Board of Directors. Prior to his appointment to President and CEO, Pietri served as Executive Vice President, Worldwide Field Operations, where he led global Sales, Sales Operations, Professional Services, and Customer Support & Training.

He previously served as Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Regional Operations, Asia Pacific, based in Singapore and Beijing, China.

Pietri joined AspenTech through the company’s acquisition of Setpoint, Inc. in 1996. At Setpoint, Pietri held a range of sales, services implementation, and consulting roles, where he oversaw integration of AspenTech solutions at European refinery and process manufacturing sites. In 2002, he relocated to Singapore as Vice President, Business Consulting, and was subsequently promoted to Managing Director of the Asia Pacific region. He began his career at ABB Simcon as an applications engineer focused on advanced control and multi-variable controllers for refining.

Pietri serves on the Chemical Engineering Advisory Board at the University of Tulsa. He was the 2017 selection for the MIT Warren K. Lewis Lectureship in Chemical Engineering, and is a frequent speaker at industry events.

He holds an MBA from the University of Houston and a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Tulsa.
