NEWSLETTER 4– 13 FROM HANKEN SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS
Quality and responsibility in education One of the key words in Finnish education policy is quality. Hanken has a long history in the field of quality assurance and has been engaged in international accreditations since the late 1990’s. So far, Hanken has two important business school accreditations, EQUIS as of 2000 and AMBA as of 2008. In 2008, Hanken was the first university in Finland to sign the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME), a UN-supported initiative to inspire and champion responsible management education, research and thought leadership globally. Recently, Hankens’ report on its progress in responsible management education was awarded the prize for best PRME report. The Hanken report was deemed to be both inspiring and innovative, and could serve as a model for all PRME members, said the award group in its motivation. So we are proud to say that alongside “quality” we can add the word “responsibility” to the Hanken name. K A R EN S P EN S D E A N O F E D U C AT I O N
HANKEN AWARDED FOR RESPONSIBLE MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP EDUCATION Hanken was selected as one of the 25 member universities to become a member of the PRME Champions leadership group, launched during the Global Compact Leaders Summit 2013 in September. This makes Hanken the only Finnish university member of the PRME Champions group. The new leadership group of the UN-supported Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) initiative will work towards unlocking the next level of responsible management and leadership education. ”For Hanken this is a great opportunity to even more actively influence and contribute to what is perceived as responsible management education, and to the guidelines of how to effectively integrate this in practice”, says Dr. Nikodemus Solitander, who is coordinating the PRME activities at Hanken. Along with the PRME Champion membership, Hanken was awarded for the best PRME report: the 2013 Recognition of Excellence Award, for its report on how responsible management education has been implemented at the School. Hanken’s report was chosen out of 500 university PRME members’ reports because it was ground-breaking and innovative, a model in reporting for all PRME members. ”This award shows, along with the fact that Hanken has been selected as one of 25 PRME Champions universities, that Hanken really is considered a pioneer in the efforts of integrating corporate responsibility into education”, says Solitander.
