Hanken’s 100 th Anniversary Celebrations Next year Hanken turns 100 and we will celebrate all year long. Lecture series and festive events for partners, alumni, researchers, staff and students will be arranged throughout the year. Hanken will celebrate its anniversary with a whole new look in line with the new visual identity. According to Hanken’s Head of Marketing and Communications, Camilla Sågbom, the aim of the visual profile is to strengthen Hanken’s brand and identity. During the year we also want to point out that Hanken soon will be the only remaining independent business school in Finland. We are also very proud of our EQUIS and AMBA accreditations and our international research and teaching. – The main theme of the anniversary year is 100 years of future, says anniversary coordinator Nina Gädeke. We will arrange open lectures, exclusive alumni seminars, interactive debates and high quality invitation seminars as well as a festive conferment of doctoral degrees. The Studia Generalia series, called Hanken Focus Forum, will combine Hanken’s research with expertise from the business world. The lecturers at the Focus Forums are at the absolute top in their respective fields. Topics that will be dealt with are, among others, environmental consciousness, logistics and future opportunities and challenges in Russia. In the autumn a record number of conferees will receive their doctoral hats. The annual alumni event Hankendagen on October 2nd will be arranged in Helsinki this year, and can be described as a day for knowledge and networks. Due to the anniversary year, Hankendagen will be bigger and better than ever before. – Hankendagen is a good example of how very active and interested our alumni are, says Camilla Sågbom. We have an active alumni council and active Hanken Ambassadors and their PR-work is invaluable to us.

“We Want More Russians” Hanken has crossed the Eastern boarder, being the first University in Finland to launch a Russian website. The website is part of Hanken’s Russia strategy led by Anna Franzén. The hanken.ru website presents Hanken in Russian for Russian students. – It is important to play according to Russians’ rules if you want them to find your website, says Anna Franzén. The site is similar to the Swedish and English ones and serves as a gateway to the English site. – Obviously we point out that studies at Hanken are conducted in English, Franzén adds. Hanken’s Russia project started in August last year and aims to strengthen the cooperation with Russia, on many levels. Hanken recruits Russian students to both the Master’s programmes and to doctoral studies. It is also important that Hanken learns more about Russia and gets involved in Russia-related research projects. The efforts have, among other things, resulted in cooperation agreements concerning exchange studies with St. Petersburg State University of Economics and Finance, the Plehanova Academy in Russia and Moscow State University’s Graduate School of Business Administration. The parties are also discussing cooperation within MBA programmes and research. The project also entails getting Hanken students interested in studying the Russian language. This autumn more than 70 students signed up for the basic Russian course. Hanken also offers students a traineeship at the Finnish Institute in St. Petersburg. The interest in Russian varies among Hanken’s faculty and staff, however the opportunities in the area are constantly developing. At the moment Hanken is working on a system for knowledge and information transfer about Russia between researchers.
