Ideas About Scientists
What’s the first idea that comes to mind when you think about scientists?

Maybe it’s quiet people in white coats mixing fluids and doing experiments.

Is this your idea of a scientist?
That’s a common idea. But scientists do a lot more than create chemicals. You may not realize it, but their ideas are used almost everywhere.
The Science of Video Games
Science helps create entertainment, like video games.

We experience some video games in virtual reality. Virtual reality makes us feel like we’re inside the video game.

Most scientists don’t create video games. Video game designers and programmers create video games.

But game creators use ideas from scientists to create exciting worlds and challenges for players to enjoy. Biologists help programmers shape animals and people that behave like they do in reality. Video game creators use physics and other sciences to create video games that seem like reality.
Creating Movie Magic
In theaters, we see movie magic created by science. Scientists help create made-up scenes that seem like reality using video and audio. For instance, we may see chaos as villagers riot or characters escape a giant alien. We may watch a lion roar or a cartoon cat meow. This action seems realistic thanks to science.

If a film needs a lot of realistic snow, scientists are hired to help create it. They use math and data to create video of fake snow that looks and moves like realistic snow.

A spaceship enters a giant wormhole. Biologists and physicists help create movement in films.

Alien eyes blink, animals and humans smile, walk, or run, and big spaceships speed toward wormholes. All these movements are created on computers with the help of scientists.

Scientists help movie writers create realistic worlds and characters. A story about a lost clownfish was created with ideas from biologists who study sea life. Based on their ideas, the fish swam and moved like a clownfish does in reality.

The work of creative scientists will continue to be important in creating the video and audio that entertains us. The ideas help video game designers, programmers, and filmmakers create work that we all enjoy.
