I was too bold. My old gram, Akna, told me not to go. But I went anyway.

It was as if I had a blindfold on. I could see three feet at most.
I unfolded my arms and kept going.

My house had to be close, I told myself, but I did not see it. Just cold, cold, blank white.

I thought of how Akna would scold me. In cold like this, she told me frostbite is a risk.
Akna is the boss of my household. She is oldest and knows the most.

I pictured my home. The old, golden lamppost in front.

The fruit bowl shining like gold on the table. Old Akna, at her post.

Just hold on, I told myself. Hold on.

At last: a glint of gold. The lamppost!

I bolted inside. I told Akna all about my cold adventure. How I thought I would not make it.

She did not scold me. She just folded me in her arms.
