International Language Programme

What is the International Language Programme?
At Brighton College Prep Handcross, we offer an International Language Programme for children aged ten and eleven This is a tailor-made crosscurricular course that is specific to your child’s level in English, Maths and all academic and non-academic subjects The course consists of intensive English lessons throughout the year, which aims to provide the level of English they will need to achieve well in assessment for prestigious senior schools At the end of the year, they integrate successfully into mainstream classes in Year 7, whilst they embark on the Upper School Curriculum
The programme covers the four key skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing It involves close study of grammar and vocabulary, including the specialised vocabulary required by the broad range of subjects they will study in Year 7
Pupils are also encouraged to read widely outside the classroom In addition to English, pupils are taught Maths, History, Geography and Science together as a small group, whilst joining the rest of their year-group for nonacademic subjects such as Sport, Computer Studies and The Arts Timetables are changeable throughout the year to respond to each child’s, interests, needs and development
