When I was about ve years old, my teacher told everyone in the class to use the colored liquids in plastic bottles to make whatever we wanted. Something magical happened to me that day. I felt a strange sense of power and ability to do whatever I wanted. It was just me and the paper and bottles of paint. And as I stared down on this white space, my whole existence was focused on what my mind wanted me to create, details, no details, houses, no houses, people, no people, splash, splatter, odd shapes. My life has since been an extension of that moment. I now see meeting new people and going to new places as if I am working on a new canvass, eager to see where they lead me. Art captures for me these situational experiences, the moods, landscapes, cultures, politics, etc. on a visual level. And as I expand my own creativity, I want to also learn about why people use certain forms to build structures like the pyramids. I am especially interested in architecture because this multidimensional canvass gives me other opportunities to express myself while providing its physical bene ts to others. During my experience at Habitat for Humanity, I saw that simple, creative ideas can make a di erence in the lives of residents. They are all living expressions of art. My hope, therefore, is that with this power and ability to do whatever I want, without limits, I will nd new, creative ways to express my art, while providing functional comfort to people and communities.

Water Color and Color Pencil on Paper 16x20 in.
Completed In Class

I used watercolor and color pencil to visualized a metaphoric stopping of the eruption. There is a hand squeezing a plastic bottle, an eruption, and a hand trying to stop a disastor. It represents the anger and a futile desire to stop a blowout.

I used color pencils and poster color to illustrate an latern shaped like an apple. They remind me of a childhood memory of a festival that had rows of stores with laterns, some of which sold candied apples.
