Rings in the New Year 宁波交响乐团奏响新年

The newly formed Ningbo Symphony Orchestra held its first concert on New Year’s Eve and was met with great applause and appreciation from the audience. Ningbo Focus arranged for members of the expat community to attend the performance, which took place at Ningbo Grand Theater on December 31st, 2015.

Even among the symphony there was some people from outside of China. One of the violinists was from Korea, and was recognized by the conductor for her contribution during the proceedings.

The evening included renditions of popular opera's from Swan Lake by Tchaikovsky (Russia) to Carmen by Bizet (France) and one of the highlights, “Nessun Dorma”, from Turandot by Puccini (Italian). Choir selections from the musical poem “Yin Di Jiu Ge” featured predominately throughout the evening.

“One of the most spectacular symphony orchestra performances I have enjoyed lately” said Indian attendee Nimral Patel, “the orchestra performed with so much fervor and zeal that the audience seemed to be engrossed and absorbed in the passion with the players.”

When the MC announced the Ningbo classics in the local dialect, the audience broke out in rapturous applause. The conductor was called back twice to continue the performance after taking his solemn bows of gratitude as is customary of symphony performances.

The Grand Theater was almost filled to capacity and the feedback from guests ranged from “splendid” to “spectacular” to “joyful and triumphant”, making it a wonderful way to ring in 2016. It’s seldom that we experience such devotion from a city as would be the sentiment of a country with great nationalistic passion. The Ningbo Symphony truly celebrated the pride of the people and the city’s legacy with pomp and passion.

Maman Nour, a student from Niger said of the concert “the symphony was a great start to the new year in Ningbo.”

当晚的演奏再现了柴可夫斯基（俄国）《天 鹅湖》、比才（法国）《卡门》中的选曲，出自普 契尼（意大利）歌剧《图兰朵》中的《今夜无人 入眠》 更是音乐会的点睛之笔。整场演出的重 头戏则是大型音乐诗画《鄞地九歌》中的合唱 选段。

“这是我最近听过的交响音乐会中极棒的 一场。乐团表演富于激情，以至于观众也被深 深吸引和感染。”在宁波高新区一家制药公司 工作的来自印度的Nirmal Patel先生说。

其间，当主持人开始用宁波方言介绍宁波 歌曲时，观众们顿时爆发出了热烈的掌声。乐 团指挥在照例鞠躬表示感谢以后，还两次安可 返场。

宁波大剧院当晚基本座无虚席，而受《宁 波聚焦》之邀来到现场的听众则纷纷用“精 彩”、“绝妙”和“意犹未尽”等词汇来形容这 次新年前夕的经历。我很少感受到人们对一座 城市的热爱如此之深，简直如同带有民族主义 激情的爱国情怀。这场宁波交响音乐会自豪而 满怀激情地歌颂了人民的骄傲和城市的传奇。
