INVISIBLE CITIES

FIRST YEAR SEMESTER I

ALTHOUGH NOT ONE OF THE FIRST THINGS YOU MIGHT THINK OF WHEN YOU THINK OF A CITY, BUT FOR THE INVISBLE CITIES PROJECT, THE CITY OF EUXODIA HAS ITS OWN STORY (ON THE RIGHT). ALTHOUGH THIS IS MORE TOWARDS THE ABSTRACT SIDE, THIS WAS ONE OF THE FIRST PROJECTS / URBAN DESIGNS I HAD MADE. I TOOK INSPIRATION FROM DIFFERENT ASPECTS OF THE STORYLINE, FROM THE SYMMETRICAL CUT OF THE BUSTLING CITY, TO THE SPIRALING STAIRCASSE IN THE CENTER IF IT ALL, CONNECTING THE SPACES OF THE BIG CITY AND THE UNIFORM RESIDENTIAL HOMES.

IN EUDOXIA, WHICH SPREADS BITH UPWARD AND DOWNWARD, WITH WINDING ALLEYS, STEPS, DEAD ENDS, HOVELS, ACARPET IS PRESERVED IN WHICH YOU CAN OBSERVE THE CITY’S TRUE FORM. AAT FIRST SIGHTNOTHING SEEMS TO RESEMBLE EUDOXIA LESS THAN THE DESIGN OF THAT CARPET, LAID OUT IN SYMMETRICAL MOTIVES WHOSE PATTERNS ARE REPEATED ALONG STRAIGHT AND CIRCULAR LINES, INTERWOVEN WITH BRILLIANTLY COLORED SPIRES, IN REPITION THAT CAN BE FOLLOWED THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE WOOF. BUT IF YOU PAUSE AND EXAMINE IT CAREFULLY, YOU BECOME CONVINCED THAT EACH PLACE IN THE CARPET CORRESPONDS TO A PLACE IN THE CITY AND ALL THE THINGS CONTAINED IN THE CITY ARE INCLUDED IN THE DESIGN, ARRANGED ACCORDING THEIR TRUE REALTIONSHIP, WHICH ESCAPES YOUR EYE DISTRACTED BY THE BUSTLE, THE THRONGS, THE SHOVING. ALL OF EUDOXIA’S CONFUSION, THE MULES’ BRAYING , THE LAMPBLACK STAINS, TEH FISH SMELL IS WHAT IS EVIDENT IN THE INCOMPLETE PERSPECTIVE YOU GRASP; BUT THE CARPET PROVES THAT THER WHICH THE CITY SHOWS ITS TRUE PROPORTIONS, TEH GEOMETRICAL SHCEME IMPLICIT IN ITS EVERY, TINEST DETAIL.. IT IS EASY TO GET LOST IN EUDOXIA ; BUT WHEN YOU CONCENTRATE AND STARE AT THE CARPET, YOU RECOGNIZE THE STREET YOU WEREE SEEKING IN A CRIMSONN OR INDIGO OR MAGENTA THREAD WHICH, IN WIDE LOOP, BRINGS YOU TO THE PURPLE ENCLOSURE THAT IS YOUR REAL DESTINTATION. EVERY INHABITANT OF EUDOXIA COMPARED THE CARPET’S IMMOBILE ORDER WITH HIS OWN INAGE OF THE CITY,AN ENGUISH OF HIS OWN, AND EACH CAN FIND, F THE ARABESQUES, AN ANSWER

KOSHINO HOUSE: ANALYTICAL MODEL

FIRST YAR SEMESTER II

THE FIRST HALF OF THE SECOND SEMESTER WAS SPENT DOING A LOT OF RESEACH AND ANALYSIS ON THE HOUSES WERE DESIGN. MINE BEING THE KOSHINO HOUSEBY TADAO ANDO, LOCATED IN HYOGO, JAPAN. THIS HOME IS SIMPLE YET UNIQUE. THE ANALYSIS HELPED TO BREA DOWN THE HOUSE, LOOKING AT PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SPACES, BUILDING HEIGHT, AND MORE. WHEN MAKING THE MODEL, I WANTED TO FOCUS ON THE TECTONICS OF THE BUIDLING AND HOW ALTHOUGH THE THREE MAIN SPACES ARE SEPERATE, IT IS ALL HELD TOGETHER BY THE MAIN HALLWAY, THE DATUM. BUT NOT ONLY THAT BUT THE FOCUS ON THE ROOMS AND HOW THEY LINE UP, THE REPETION, THE ELIPISE AT THE TOP OF ALL THESE SPACES BREAKIND DOWN ADDING A LITTLE CONTRAST. ALL OF THESE SPACES AND CONNECTIONS IN ONE HOME.

RENEGADE CLASSROOM

FIRST YEAR SEMESTER II

THE RENEGADE CLASSROOM WAS LOCATED AT SAXON PARK IN NORMAN BUT HIGHWAY 9. THE PROJECT CONSISTED OF A OUTDOOR LEARNING/ CLASSROM SPACES OPEN FOR EVENTS, STUDENT ON FIELD TRIPS AND MORE. MY TAKE ON THE PROJECT WAS INSPIRED BY THE AT&T PERFORMING ARTS CENTER IN DALLAS, TEXAS AS THE CETER OF THE BUILDING IS WRAPPED IN A BIG PERGOLA. I WANTED MY CALSSROOM TO HAVE THAT LOOK , BUT ALSO ALLWAY THE BUILDING AND SPACES AROUND IT TO FEEL OPEN RATHER THEN ENCLOSING ALL OF THE BUILDING.

CAROLINE TIGER BEETLE

SECOND YEAR SEMESTER I

FOR THE BUG ANALYSIS PROJECT, I HAD THE CAROLINA TIGER BEETLE, THESE BEETLES ARE KNOWN FOR THEIR METALLIC DIVOTED SHELLS AND PROMINENT STARK LEGS. THEY HAVE OVER 2,600 SPECIES,AND THEIR HABITATS HAVE A VARIETY OF HABITATS, FROM FORESTS TO SAND . THAT IS WHERE I GOT THE IDEA TO BASE MY BUG ANALYSIS MODEL ON SAND DUNES.THE MODEL IN A WAY IMITATES SAND DUNES. THE GAPS IN TIS MODEL BEING THE ACCESS FOR THE BEETLES TO INHABIT THE SPACE, THE OUTER SHAPES CONNECTED TO ONE ANOTHER AS A WAY OF CIRCULATING FROM ONE LOCATION TO ANOTHER IF THE BUG DOES IS NOT USIGN THE UNDERGROUND PASSAGE.

THE INSIPIRATION BEHIND THE MODEL WAS SAND DUNES, AS THE THIN BASS WOOD STICKS REPRESENT THE SMALL GRAINS OFF SAND IN THE IM ITATION OF THE CURVES ADN DIPS OF A REAL SAND DUNE.

EQUINE CENTER

SECOND YEAR SEMESTER I

         

THE NORMAN EQUINE CENTER WAS BASED ON A SITE IN NORMAN BY THE NAME OF J.D. MCCARTHY CENTER FOR CHILDREN WITH DEVELOPMENT DISABILITIES. THE MCCAARTHY CENTER OFFERS A SUMMER CAMP PROGRAM, AND WITH THAT THEY HAVE THE KIDS RIDING HORSES AND OTHER ACTIVITIES FOR A COUPLE WEEKS. THEY HAD A SMALL PIN, AND WITH THAT WE DESIGNED FOR A MORE PERMINATE PLACEMENT FOR THE RIDING AREA AS WELL AS THE HORSE STABLES. FOR MY DESIGN OF THIS BUILDING, I INCOPORATED IT INTO THE SITE AS THEY SITE HAS A BUT OF A SLOPE, SO RATHER THEN BUILDING ON TOP, I DUG IN ALITTLE. I WANTED THE DATUM TO BE THE CENTRAILIZED CIRCULATION OF THE BUILDING TO KEEP IT SIMPLE, BUT SOMETHING I WANTED KIDS AND GUEST TO EXPERIENCE WHEN HERE IS A MOMENT AT THE TOP OF THE BUILDING, AS THE TOP IS A ROOFTOP WALKWAY. IT ALWAYS FOR CHILDREN AT THE CAMP TO STILL SEE THE HORSESE IF THEY ARE NOT COMFORTABLE BEING TOO CLOSE.



NORMAN CENTER FOR URBAN FARMING

SEMESTER IV

I WANTED MY URBAN FARMING CENTER IN NORMAN,TO BE ONE THAT ALLOWS FOR THE COMMUNITY TO GATHER, LEARN, SHARE, AND JUST BE APPRECIATED FOR BEING A SPACE THAT WELCOMES PEOPLE. GOING INTO THIS PROJECT, I KNEW I WNATED THIS MINITURE FARMINF CENTER TI BE A FUN, RELAXING FOR EVERYONE. THIS CENTER CAN BE UTILIZED FOR MULTIPLE EVENTS AND FUNCTIONS.
