Different Hamster Breeds – Which One Should I Choose?

There are about 25 types of hamster breeds as known. However, not all those hamster breeds are suitable to be a pet as they are actually have absolutely different characteristics. The following are the most common and popular five:

Syrian Hamsters (Science name: Mesocricetus auratus) Size: 6 – 7 inches Average live span: 2-2.5 years (the largest! Males are always slightly smaller than females.) Appearance features: Various in colours and hair with short tails. Characteristics: solitary and nocturnal. These mean that every Syrian should be in there own cage otherwise they may fight with each other until one die. However, they are the most responsive one so they are the most popular one too. Suitable for children to keep as a pet. Active period: Evening and night
