Merit Scholarships

In addition to need-based financial aid, Hampshire College offers merit scholarships at the time of acceptance without consideration of financial need. Merit scholarships are based on a complete assessment of a student’s application (grades, co-curricular involvement, recommendations, etc). These scholarships are renewable all four years (eight semesters) as long as the student maintains satisfactory academic progress.

You can find detailed information on our merit scholarships at:

HAMP.IT/MERITSCHOLARSHIPS

Hampshire Grant

This is offered by the College to students based on financial need. The Hampshire Grant is awarded after federal, state, and other aid is considered.

Federal Financial Aid

This category of aid includes grants and loans sponsored by the U.S. government, such as the Pell Grant, the Federal Supplemental Equal Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), and Federal Direct Subsidized/ Unsubsidized and PLUS loans.

Students who have served in the military may be eligible for benefits under the G.I. Bill. Benefits may also be available to dependents of a veteran. Students can obtain more information from their local or regional veterans administration office. Students who are 100 percent eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill will also be considered for the Yellow Ribbon matching scholarship.

State Grants

Massachusetts and Vermont provide need-based grant funds that can be used at Hampshire College. If you live in another state, check your state’s financial assistance office for opportunities.

We understand that navigating the financial aid process can be tricky. If you have questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Student Employment

Hampshire College offers federal and institutional work-study funding. There are a variety of positions available throughout campus: in offices, in the library, in the dining commons, at the Farm, etc. Students have also found placements as America Reads tutors in pre-school, elementary, and afterschool programs. An effort is made to help students obtain positions that suit their interests, skills, and academic schedules, but it is each student’s responsibility to secure a job.

International Students

International students are eligible, based on academic performance, for scholarships to attend Hampshire College. These include merit scholarships and three available International Scholar Awards (one for full cost of attendance, and two for full cost of tuition). These scholarships are renewable each year based on satisfactory academic progress and continuous full-time attendance.
