INTRODUCTION Hamimi is a boutique brother and sister brand, with Alex based in Brisbane and Rebecca on the ground in Marrakech, where she oversees the team of skilled local artisans that bring our designs to life.

From our base in Marrakech, we design and create original jewellery, handbags and lighting. Our designs embrace the old and the new, combining traditional Moroccan techniques and materials with a contemporary sensibility.

STYLE WITH SUBSTANCE On the road to the Atlas Mountains at the far reach of Marrakech city rests a humble village where a small community of women handcraft our collection of crochet pendant lights.

Crochet is a craft passed on through generations of women in this village. They typically crochet blankets and clothing for their own use, as well as skull caps, called taqiyah, that are worn by many Moroccan men.

Rebecca's nanny, Fatiha and her extended family live in this village and that is how our relationship with the community began. Fatiha's mother, sister and niece are among the growing number of women that make our crochet lights and fashion accessories.

We were incredibly impressed with their crochet skills and they were enthusiastic about creating our designs, as it gave them an opportunity to extend their skills but also the potential to generate much needed additional income.

The benefits to these women are clearly more than just financial, as their sense of purpose, hope for the future and connection to a bigger world has also grown.

As the awareness and demand for our crochet products grow we are able to train and engage more women so the benefits to the community reach even further.

We started working together on a range of crochet jewellery, bags and cushions before moving on to creating crochet lights.

We were already making other copper, perforated tin and woven bamboo light fixtures (which were beautiful), but proved costly and problematic to send internationally from Morocco. This is when the concept of creating collapsible crochet lights that could be flat-packed for safe and economical delivery was born.

Our range of Crochet Lighting has now grown from our original Malika Collection to now include the new Baraka and Seven Saints collections.

#stylewithsubstance Meet FATIHA - Fatiha ls a cherished member of the Hamimi family. She lives in the village near Marrakech where our crochet lights are made and helps us coordinate the community of women artisans we partner with. Her mother, sister and niece are among the beautiful women that handcraft some of our products.

MALIKA CROCHET LIGHTS

Named after the beautiful woman that made our very first crochet pendant, the Malika collection is available in two models (Wahad and Joosh), with four sizes in each model.

To reflect their origin, the sculptural shape of the pendants are inspired by objects used in daily Moroccan life - like tagines, baskets, pots and lanterns.

Each model is available in one solid colour or in two colours. With 18 standard colours to choose from, the options are almost endless.

BARAKA CROCHET LIGHTS The Baraka collection is as lively and colourful as Morocco itself, the country they are inspired by and created in.

This collection is created in three different colour palettes; each inspired by a place in Morocco that we love - the Sahara Desert, the seaside town of Essaouira and the Marrakech Medina.

Working with these different colour palettes, the women artisans use their artistic instinct and spiritual enlightenment, a concept known as 'Baraka', to produce these original one-of-akind functional works of art.

The Baraka collection includes a short and a tall model. The tall model (22D x 55H cm) is relatively long and slim and the short model (50D x 30H cm) is wide and shallow.

SEVEN SAINTS CROCHET LIGHTS

To many locals, Marrakech is also known as the City of Seven Saints. This name refers to seven men of historical, religious and spiritual significance who's tombs in the Medina have been destinations of religious pilgrimage since the 17th century.

These seven men, said to be blessed with incredible wisdom, shone in their time as beacons of guidance and spiritual enlightenment. Paying homage to these men, our Seven Saints Crochet Lights are created in seven glorious models of divine shape and splendid proportion.Â

GENERAL INFORMATION

Handmade to Order Our crochet lights are individually handmade to order and as such small variations in size and shape may occur.

Electrical Lamp Fittings Electrical lamp fittings are not included.

Our pendants are designed to fit standard pendant light fittings. We like the ready to use single pendant sets from 'Creative Cables' (www.creativecables.com ) which are available in a wide variety of styles and colours. The modern minimal style of their metal pendant sets (shown below in black) complement our crochet pendant lamps very well.

Lead Time Lead times vary depending on the quantity ordered and our current workloads. Most smaller orders are completed within 1-3 weeks plus shipping times.

Creative Cables have dedicated online stores in many international destinations. Please contact us if you require any guidance or assistance.

Materials Traditional Moroccan viscose kitan yarn on handmade solid brass rings.

Cleaning Clean regularly with a feather duster, lint roller and/or vacuum with a furniture nozzle attachment.

Can be wiped clean with a lightly dampened cloth.

Packaging Each pendant is flat-packed in a custom carton for safe and economical shipping.

Shipping We ship worldwide via DHL Express. Tracking details are provided when an order is sent.

Installation To be installed by a qualified electrician.

Recommended Bulb Max 15W warm white LED (clear or pearl). Not to be used with halogen or incandescent bulbs that generate high heat levels.

Gently reshape the pendant by lightly stretching it into shape from top to bottom after unpacking. Use the plastic cord grip to secure the cord so that the light bulb sits approximately at the widest point of the pendant as shown in the sketch below.

We recommend using LED bulbs as they are energy efficient and do not generate high heat levels. You may like to experiment with the strength of the bulbs to achieve your desired brightness/ambience in the space.

You can also use pearl or clear bulbs to create different effects - a pearl bulb will contain the light within the pendant to create a warm glow whereas a clear bulb will punch the light out through the weave to create a patterned effect on surrounding ceiling and close walls.

Choosing between a warm or cool white bulb will also affect the ambience you create - we generally use a warm white bulb.
