Building Board Games for Beginners* Wed. 11/1 | 6-7:30pm | NOB How do board games go from concept to play? How do the game designers do it? Hear from a local game designer and expert about types of board games, mechanics, graphic design, and more! The presentation will include a Q&A and open discussion. Attendees can pick up a ‘Build Your Own Board Game’ packet - a selection of basic components you need to start building your own game. Then, bring your prototypes to our Community Board Game and Playtesting Day on Nov. 11 to let other board game enthusiasts try their hand! Hail to the Goat! Escape Room* Sat. 11/4 | 2-3pm | NOB Benjamin Harrison is the only Hoosier to become president (so far). He lived a fascinating life in the White House surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and… a goat? Help solve a Victorian mystery by sifting through copies of actual artifacts available from the Indiana State Library and the Library of Congress! What does a goat have to do with anything? Gather your team of puzzlers, decoders, and sleuths to solve this presidential mystery. For teens only. VR Open House Sat. 11/18 | 2-4pm | FIS Experience virtual reality through Meta Quest 2 headsets! Attendees will have approximately 15 minutes to explore VR apps/games after a librarian gives an overview of how to use the equipment. Please note that this is a first-come, first-served event due to the limited number of devices. Participants must sign a waiver of liability before using the equipment; a parent or guardian must be present to complete a waiver of liability for a minor. For teens and adults.

Intro to Tabletop RPGs: Getting the Party Started* Mon. 11/6, 11/13, 11/20 & 11/27 | 6:30-7:30pm | NOB Join Michael Dotson for this four-part Party-themed series that breaks down the world of Tabletop Role-Playing Games (TTRPG) into its most crucial elements. We’ll cover how to start (and finish) a game, whether it is a “one-shot,” short campaign or epic adventure. For each session you attend, you may enter prize drawings for a unique metal polyhedral 7-die set and a dice tower. At the last session, we will draw two lucky winners! For teens and adults. Session 1 | Party Favors: Determining what the Game Master can reasonably expect from their players and vice versa. Session 2 | Host(ess) with the Most(est): An overview of the pros and cons of different TTRPG systems. Session 3 | Party Invitations: How to create characters and develop their backstories to form your adventuring party. Session 4 | Party People in the Place to Be: Lessons on worldbuilding through a Module, “real” location, or your own “home brew” world. Pinball Wizard Competition* Sat. 11/11 |10am-12:30pm | FIS Join us for a competition where you (or a team) assemble and design a cardboard pinball machine! Participants will engage in math, science, and art as you build and design a PinBox 3000 from a kit and other assorted materials. Open to participants of all types: gamers, makers, crafters, artists, engineers, and creative thinkers. For ages 13+ (6-12 w/adult). Community Board Game and Playtesting Day Sat. 11/11 | 1-5pm | FIS Get your game on at the library to celebrate International Games Month! Bring your family or friends, choose a board/card game from our library, or bring your own. We’ll have plenty of space available for play. Members of Indy Tabletop Game Creators will have their designs ready to playtest. All ages welcome. Drop-in for a while or game the whole time!
