I n s p i r e d b y C a r l A n d r e ’s b o l d , i n d u s t r i a l a r t a n d p o e t i c m i n i m a l i s m , t h i s design seamlessly integrates his structured aesthetic into the site without disrupting the existing trees and sculptures. The project unfolds into three distinct buildings: two dedicated gallery spaces and a separate office structure. This layout naturally creates three unique outdoor spaces, enhancing t h e v i s i t o r e x p e r i e n c e . To c o m b a t t h e i n t e n s e Te x a s h e a t , a n i n n o v a t i v e roofing system balances open and closed elements, providing strategic shade while maintaining an air y feel. Additionally, a carefully designed louver system surrounds the buildings, controlling the influx of natural light and creating a dynamic interplay between shadow and illumination.

I n times of hardship, the Enso is a power ful symbol of boundless strength and self-determination, reminding individuals that they hold the power to shape their perspectives and paths in life. I t is an invitation to look inward, discover resilience, and find inner peace.

Designed as a refuge for those who feel lost or over whelmed, it offers a space for healing, self- discover y, and renewal. I n this place, individuals can reconnect with themselves and emerge stronger than before.

Austria is bordered by eight countries, mak ing it a potential route for passing transit traffic from north to south and east to west. Austria has recognized the need to protect the environment since the early 1970s. This awareness has been heightened by the importance of the tourism industry in its economy and the pressures on t h e e nv i ro n m e n t b y i n c re a s e d t r a f f i c o n t h e p o s s i b l e ro u t e s b y c a r, t r u c k , a n d trains. As Austr ia is a landlock ed countr y. I n the middle of Europe, the qualit y of its environment is partly dependent on the progress achieved by its neighbors.

The environmental challenge in the Austrian Alps for the future lies in i) finding the most eco-friendly methods to prevent and control transit pollution and ii) moving further along the path of sustainable development, including in sec tors such as tour ism, energy, and the transpor t industr y. The high amount of transit traffic led to a healthy high increase in CO2 concentration, becoming our current challenge.

The study of various modes of transport, from traveling alone in a car to shifting travel patterns through public transport, and the impact of CO2 emissions is analyzed. Better network connections and introducing subsidies and incentives to shift to eco-friendly transit options can partially achieve this.

Since March 2011, nearly 13 million Syrian people have been displaced or have fled to neighboring countries seeking refuge due to a governmental crackdown. Due to this crisis, the Syrian people face various challenges with integration into their new host countries.

These challenges primarily deal with educational systems, the refugees’ mental and physical well-being, and employment issues. The Refugee Cynosure Center is a new refugee hub that will generate a community support system, provide educational and employment tools, teach the community beneficial communication sk ills, and care for physical and mental well-being with the support of evidence-based design. The design solution will incor porate four design theor ies: place attachment theor y, comfor t theor y, design for healing, and environmental psychology. Each theor y will supplement the integration of the asylum seek ers’ path to a prosperous life within the host countr y or future destinations.

T h e s t r u c t u r e s t u d i e d i s a C o n t a i n e r P a r k / Te c h n o p a r k i n a L a b o r a t o r y Fa c i l i t y l o c a t e d in Bor nova, Tur k e y. The goal of this struc ture was to foster interdisciplinar y collaboration a n d a n c h o r t h e e m e r gi n g t e c h n o p a r k i n t h e h e a r t o f I z m i r, Tu r k e y. T h e re s u l t i n g p ro j e c t repur posed 35 second-hand shipping containers to for m the center piece of a new, vibrant research community on the campus and function as a creative magnet for talent i n E g e U n i v e r s i t y, I z m i r, a n d t h e Ae g e a n re gi o n . T h i s f a c i l i t y e n c o m p a s s e s t h e t o o l s a n d accommodations necessar y to lead these refugees to a successful transition into a new life.

The Cynosure Center is a sanctuar y dedicated to the refugees’ well-being and will provide the tools needed to thrive on their new journey to find a place to call home. This center allows families to transport from the surrounding camps and region to the Cynosure Center to receive the desired assistance. I nstead of the 35 shipping containers used in the laborator y, the Cynosure Center consists of 47 second-hand shipping containers, each with a length of 40 ft. Stacking and merging the containers into each other allowed the creation of 5 larger spaces.

These spaces will comprise five units: a medical unit, an academic unit, an employment unit, a f o o d p a n t r y u n i t , a s h e l t e r u n i t , a n d a H e a l i n g G a r d e n i n t h e c e n t e r ’s h e a r t . A r e o c c u r r i n g calming color pallet throughout the center helps soothe the refugees from the trauma, gr ief, and loss they have endured.

The Cynosure Center will be located just outside Sanliufra, Turkey. This location was chosen because Turkey’s largest refugee camps house over 113,000 refugees. Since the beginning of this civil war in Syria, Turkey has applied an open-door policy and has received almost 3.6 million refugees. Out of the 3.6 million refugees, only around 171,640 live in the 19 temporary protection centers in cities near the border.

Located in the medical unit, psychologists will assist the recovery of trauma, grief, and loss with one-on-one assistance or the assistance of a community support system.

Located in the empolyment unit, refugees will have full access to speak with representatives that will guide them on obtaining work permits, stabilize their income, provide courses on the workforce, communication skills, and tools to intergrate into their host country.

Located in the medical unit, refugees will have access to childcare assistance provided by the center. This will allow the parents/guardians to work recieve the assistance they need in order to provide for their family.

Color Theor y is employed to carefully choose soothing hues that foster calmness and focus, complemented by organic shapes and patterns that enhance the connection to the natural world. This thoughtful approach not only promotes physical health but also nurtures psychological and spiritual well-being, creating environments where individuals can thr ive and organizations can succeed.
