Part 1 The types of roller The roller is the main part of the rolling machine, with the pressure which come from the rolling roller to roll the steel. There are many kinds of roller, the commonly material of the roller have: cast steel roller, case iron roller, forged roller.
Part 2 The rolls are widely used Roller was used in different site as its different hardness: (1)used for opening embryo, large rough rolling mill if the hardness is about HRC30-40;(2)hardness of about HRC60 -85 for thin, thick plate mill, medium sections and merchant bar mill and four support rollers rolling mill; (3) the roll hardness about HRC85-100, was used in the cold rolling mill.
Part 3 The Processing of the different materials roller (1) Cast iron roll: smelting-casting-softening treatment-roughing-treatment(to increase the hardness)-Finishing-flaw detection-Finished. (2) Cast steel roll: (alloy steel roll as a example: )smelting - casting - Rough - Heat treatment - finishing - Performance, testing and other testing - finished. (3) Forged steel rolls:(cold-rolled ): selection of raw materials → EBT early smelting → LF refining→ vacuum degassing → casting molding → ESR → forging → spheroidization annealing → rough → quenching (quenching and tempering) → semi-finishing →flaw detection → preheating →dual quenching → cold treatment → tempering → finishing → hardness, ultrasonic and metallographic → packaging .
Part 4 :The common problems when processing the rollers Currently, People choose the roller with higher hardness in order to obtain the better efficiency and reduce the rollers consumption, its hardness troubles the roller manufacture when they processing the roller. Large companies are using CNC machining high hardness roller, but most manufacture still use ordinary lathe processing rollers, during the process, often occur: machine vibration, difficult to turning ,poor surface and other issues, affecting processing efficiency and quality.
Part 5 How to choose the insert when process the higher hardness roller Comparison: Carbide tools, ceramic cutting tools and cubic boron nitride cutting tools (CBN tools) Carbide tools: its hardness is not enough for process the higher hardness roller. Ceramic cutting tools: its brittleness was too weak cubic boron nitride cutting tools (CBN tools):higher hardness than Carbide tools, and better brittleness than ceramic cutting tools.
