NZISM assists and informs members who work in both the public and private sectors by providing them with professional development opportunities, information, conferences, seminars, publications and networking opportunities at a branch level. NZISM at a national level, provides representation to Government agencies. Through its Professional Development Framework, NZISM assists members to further develop their skills and knowledge in the OH&S profession, to assist clients or customers. The local Branches are autonomous and support a National Executive. This body represents the interests of OH&S professionals as well as creating opportunities for career development.

Nationall Reprresen ntation As a professional association, NZISM ensures that the voice of its members is heard on issues affecting the development and practice of professional occupational health, safety and environmental management in New Zealand. NZISM instigated the establishment of the Occupational Health and Safety Industry Group (OHSIG). This group has elected members from different professional bodies and is actively promoting the development of an OH&S profession. This involves making submissions to Government and various other public sector agencies as well as participating in select committees, Code of Practice formation and the setting of industry standards.

Nationall Con nferen nce NZISM facilitates NZ’s largest OH&S conference. These conferences have been spectacular with national and international speakers addressing both local and international issues. The conference format includes streaming, interactive workshops, educational forums, as well as traditional key-note speakers. NZISM has a Joint Venture agreement with NZ Occupational Health Nurses Association to run these conferences. At conference the awards for the achievement of the Professional Development Framework Standards are held, as well as the sought after 3M Innovation in Safety Awards. The conference theme night dinners are always a highlight of the three day conference event and should not be missed.

Professional Members may use the letters MNZISM after their name-providing a recognisable symbol of their ongoing commitment toward professionalism.
