On December 17, the Hall County Library Board dedicated the North Hall Children’s Library in memory of Mrs. Kathy Gailey, a long time library supporter who served as Vice-Chair of the library board and was an active member of the Friends of the Library. Mrs. Gailey was a frequent patron of North Hall and served for many years as media specialist at Wauka Mountain Elementary. Mrs. Gailey was an ardent believer in libraries, and was willing to work to make our community libraries the best they could be. HCLS is proud to name this space in her honor.

The Hall County Library System will be implementing changes to the digital library services HOOPLA in an effort to conserve funds. Over the past two years, our eproductcirculationhasincreased100%-ineffectdoublingthecosts.Thismeansthe currentsettingsinHOOPLAarenotsustainablewithinthelibrary’sbudget.
TheLibrarypaysafeeeachtimeanitemischeckedoutbyapatroninHOOPLA.The fee ranges from 99 cents to $3.99 per item per checkout. Beginning in January, the library will begin setting a daily spending cap to ensure we can stay within our operating budget When that daily cap is expended, users can come back the next day (after midnight) to complete their checkout. We hope that making this change will enable us to keep HOOPLA without reducing the number of checkouts available monthlytoourpatrons.
While HOOPLA is a much loved service, please remember that many items in HOOPLA can be found on our other e-book platforms. Libby and The Palace Project offer many, many high demand items and popular titles As digital technologies become increasingly inseparable from the ways people learn, work, and interact, public libraries’ ability to afford access to e-books and audiobooks and other econtent like streaming movies is more important than ever. The Hall County Library System will continue to strive to offer the best services to our patrons within our budget.

In The Gallery: Tony Thomas
Jan. 2nd-31st, 2025
Born in Gainesville, Georgia, and self-taught from a very early age, TonyT has been drawing and painting since he first learned to hold a pencil. Tony’s art seeks to find beauty in everyday life. It seeks to showcase luscious color and luminous natural light whether in a landscape, a seascape, or still life. The subject matter and formal concerns of color, light and frame have always been the devices used to get to the captured spirit of the moment. Employing a variety of genres to explore the nature and place of life settings, Tony’s series includes landscape views and still life paintings that represent the state-of-the-art as well as the passing of time. In each genre, his richly realized depictions balance the affection and admiration of his subjects with precise and unsentimental observation.
