Welcome to another packed programme of shows and events here at The Playhouse, which is owned and run by the Halifax Thespians.

We have something for everyone from our in-house plays to visiting musical societies bringing RENT, Calamity Jane and Little Shop of Horrors to the Playhouse stage.

There’s a wide range of professional bands and singers, giving you chance to experience the music of Cilla Black and the Beatles; Dolly Parton and Glen Campbell; Pink Floyd; The Eagles; Elvis; and Simon and Garfunkel.

The Halifax Thespian plays now have no Ticketsource booking fee, so why not take advantage of our 24/7 online box office. There’s also a text option – all detailed on page 15.

We have the great benefit of owning our own Grade II listed building, but running this theatre comes with its own challenges and costs. The Playhouse is run primarily by volunteer members, so why not join the team and make a difference. Membership for 2019/20 is just £15.00, which can be recouped by seeing just 4 of our 8 shows due to member priced tickets.

To ensure we cover our costs we have introduced a new pricing structure for Thespian shows that includes an Early Bird option. By paying for your tickets at least 7 days before the opening night you’ll get reduced price tickets. There is also reduced price ticket for Children under 16 and Students with an NUS card.

There’s nothing like live theatre, so why not bring along family and friends to enjoy the diverse shows being performed here this season. We look forward to seeing you.

The Night Alive by Connor McPherson An Edwardian house in Yorkshire, which is now a bedsit, inhabited by Tommy. He rents the room from his Uncle Maurice who lives upstairs. Tommy’s friend, Doc, also sleeps in the room and helps Tommy in doing odd jobs and moving things around with Tommy’s van.

You’re My World is a celebration of Cilla Black and The Beatles.

This fun-packed show celebrates the forefront of the Brit-pop music scene of the 1960s, recrea ng the atmosphere of the original Cavern Club and then moving on to the glamour of performing to royalty at the London Palladium.

The story begins shortly after the funeral of Edith and Renata’s mother. The older sister, Edith, has sacrificed a goodly portion of her life to care for and nurse their mother.

As a result, she has remained unmarried and has become severe and deeply concerned for her future.

Renata, on the other hand, glamorous, somewhat selfish and several times married, has spent her life doing exactly what she pleases. Edith’s future hopes lie in the estate of their late mother.

Calamity Jane can outrun and outshoot any man in Deadwood. Well-meaning, but disaster-prone, she tries to help the local saloon proprietor out of a jam by promising to fetch a music-hall star, Adelaide Adams, from Chicago.

But things don’t go too smoothly for Calamity, as everyone in the town favours the new girl and she struggles to keep her jealousy and pride in check. It takes her long standing enemy Wild Bill Hickhok to make her see sense, and realise her secret love. A hilarious comedy, it nevertheless has many tender moments and some very famous numbers, including ‘Secret Love’, ‘Black Hills of Dakota’, ‘Deadwood Stage’ and ‘Windy City’.

This amateur production is presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International (Europe). The authorised performance materials are also supllied by MTI Europe.

Michael, still charming and witty, concentrates his recovery on creating a giant mural on the back wall of his hospital room. An expression of his loss, his hopes, and his desire to live his life as the man he was 11 years ago.

The Haunting of Blaine Manor Written & Directed by Joe O’Byrne Winner of The Salford Star Best Play of 2018 Award England, 1953.

Renowned American parapsychologist Doctor Roy Earle, famous for discrediting hauntings and exposing fake mediums, is invited to attend a seance in what is said to be the most haunted building in England, a building with a horrific history, Blaine Manor. Even the locals won’t set foot there, as all who walk within those grounds will be cursed.

But his arrival at the manor has awoken something, something horrific within the walls. As a raging storm closes off Blaine Manor from the outside world, Earle and the others find that what is waiting there is not nearly as horrific as what has entered with him…

DEAD GUILTY When John Haddrell dies of a heart attack at the wheel of his car, the woman at his side is not his wife Margaret but his young lover, Julia.

Now months later, still recovering from the injuries she sustained in the ensuing crash, Julia is visited by Margaret, who apparently knows nothing of the affair.

Motel California Top Eagles tribute band Motel California is marking 10 years of delighting fans across the UK. Playing songs from the early days to the latest album they continue to accurately reproduce the glorious vocal harmonies and guitar parts associated with classic songs by Eagles, Joe Walsh, Don Henley and Glenn Frey.

Whether you have lots of experience or none at all, ST aims to share knowledge and experience through regular workshops and amateur productions to help anyone with an interest in performing arts (as a whole) to learn and develop techniques and key skills.

As an arm of the Halifax Thespians we at ST are able to use the resources on offer to help all members as well as put on three performances a year-one on the Halifax Playhouse main stage, one within the Halifax Playhouse Studio-Bar as well as an outdoor performance! New members will have the opportunity to be involved in all projects of Playhouse Stage-Training as well as with the Halifax Thespians’ productions.

You may be actively involved on or off the stage, with opportunities to learn not only acting skills but behind the scenes (backstage) such as lighting, sound, assistant-stage-manager or stagemanager, even front of house roles are available!

HALIFAX THESPIAN SHOWS For the 2019 season you will not pay the 10% Ticketsource fee. We are also introducing an Early Bird scheme so book and pay 7 days before opening night and you’ll save money.

On the first night and Saturday ma nees of each Thespian produc on you can buy ckets at the reduced rate of two seats for £21 (2 for £19 via the Early Bird scheme).

For all other performances ckets are now £14.00 (£12 via Early Bird). All can be booked in advance.

Please note that two of our eight principal produc ons will be performed in the Bar Studio.

MEMBER DISCOUNT Paid-up Thespian members are en tled to a discount on their cket for all Thespian shows.
