FIRST LIFE CHANGER & A STEP AWAY FROM PUBLIC EYE May 24th of 1989 was date that changed Sherihan forever. A car accident on a desert road, during a trip to Alexandria, fractured her spine. Sherihan had to endure dozens of surgeries on her back to fix the multiple fractures. She went into reclusion and was under medical supervision and rehabilitation for years. Sherihan lived abroad for many of these years to get medical treatments. This seclusion provided additional speculation in the tabloids that lasted for years. Much like the rumors of Princess Diana, massive rumors circled about that car accident in that it was not car accident at all, but an attempt to separate Sherihan from Mubarak’s son as planned by the first lady of Egypt, Susan Mubarak. Regardless of the rumors, millions of her fans were deeply saddened by her absence during the Ramadan season. It would be four years before the Diva of Ramadan would be able to stand and perform on her last Fawazeer Show in 1993.
In the 90’s, Sherihan focused on her career as an actress to churn out many great films. She added a lot to her career and became one of the Middle East’s most recognized Divas at that time. As an entertainer, Sherihan became the face of Arab world on a level with Madonna, J-Lo, Britney Spears or Katy Perry. Sherihan was the package deal of all these stars put together. Her style put her in the fashion forefront much like Lady Gaga. The variety of her work put her on a level with the great actresses like Ashley Judd or Charlize Theron.
ROMANCE AND NEW LIFE On a romantic level, her life was marred by a short-lived marriage to a wealthy arab businessman, Allal El Fassi. They got divorced quietly after a series of crises appeared in the market tabloids. Privacy was a constant issue for the actress. A second marriage to businessman named Alaa Al Khawaja would prove to be more fruitful, but no less tumultuous. This marriage was secret because Alaa Al Khawaja was a husband to another woman at the time. The woman was the famous Egyptian actress, Isaad Younis. Issad Younis knew about this marriage. There was a rumor and media war against Sherihan led by Isaad Younis. Sherihan obliged by providing complete silence, but soon the couple was crowned with Lulua (Pearl). This was the first daughter of Sherihan.
