My name is Haley Hays and I have a passion for photography. I want to document my life through my photos and let my individually manifest through my Christianity. I love to travel and dream of seeing the world through the eye of my camera. I accept food as payment and I’m always down to watch a sunset while eating the food you just paid me with.

My name is Haley Hays. I embrace my diversity and love to incorporate my personal style and sparkle in everything I do. From my clothes to my obsessive process of editing photos, I want you to visualize my face without ever seeing my name. My pastor, Rev. David Gleason, describes me a “strong current” and I am addicted to the color Tiffany blue. I like to think of myself as a pixel perfectionist and a sunset fanatic. My extensive knowledge of makeup is only diminished by my ever-‐ growing knowledge of the Bible and I will never pass up the chance to cuddle with puppies. My passions include travel, music, fashion and graphic design, all of which I would like to pursue with photography. I want to the see the world through the eye of my camera and capture not only my memories, but also others that are around me. Twitter: (140 characters) Haley Hays is a pixel perfectionist who embraces her diversity. She’s addicted to studying the Bible, Tiffany, sunsets, makeup & puppies

“I feel at home in Wilson. The professors become your friends that you casually talk to in the halls, whether its about work or life, you just know they’re there for you and to me, that means the world.” - Haley Hays, Junior Public Relations Major, Photography minor

The Murray State University Journalism and Mass Communications Department received an award in every major category. This department offers five majors leading to a bachelor's degree: television production, graphic communications, advertising, journalism, and public relations. The department also offers minors in advertising, graphic communications technology, journalism, mass communications, and photography, and a Master of Arts or Master of Science in mass communications. Murray State has offered journalism courses since 1927, proving classes in the second oldest building on campus, historic Wilson Hall. Wilson Hall also houses The Murray State News, an award-‐winning student run newspaper. Broadcasting facilities are located on the eighth floor of the Price Doyle Fine Arts Center. The 2015 Outstanding Senior in Television Production was Halle Pinkham. The television production program provides elaborate theoretical and practical experience in all aspects of digital video production. This program also gives students a chance to develop their skills in television production through labs and class projects. By majoring in this field of study, Halle received a job when she graduated in the spring of 2015 as a Production Management Assistant for CMT. She helps manage the live shows that CMT hosts such as Instant Jam, Artist of the Year, CMT Music Awards and Crossroads to name a few. Her job allows her to see all the behind the scenes of the shows and she gets to meet most of the famous artists while listening to sound checks as if they’re playing for her and only her. Professor Chris Haynes and Dr. Kevin Qualls provide a well-‐rounded sequence of classes that teach you everything from the basics of television production to the most advanced. “Murray’s JMC Department and its professors truly helped mold me into the woman I am today. I was privileged to encounter so many passionate individuals who inspired me to reach for my highest goal which aimed much higher than my small town roots; that’s something I’ll never be able to repay them for. I will hold on to the knowledge and friendships I gained at Murray State University for a very long time.” – Halle Pinkham The 2015 Outstanding Senior in Graphic Communications was Ashney Williams. Graphic communications at Murray State University continues to expand as the nation's economy grows. After graduation employment opportunities are for those qualified to perform at technical and management levels. Professor Brent Norsworthy and W. Gross Magee teach several upper division electives in this department. The 2015 RJN Outstanding Senior in Advertising was Andrea Moore. Andrea is only the third student to receive the award following Janie Stenberg in 2014 and Michael Gallagher in 2013. Advertising is a form of marketing that is used to encourage, persuade, or manipulate an audience partake or continue to take some action. Professor Robert Valentine is a senior advertising lecturer with a background in writings of Mark Twain, Thomas Edison, theatre and storytelling. Gill Welsch is a senior advertising lecturer while also being a faculty member of the Ads Club (AAF). Dr. Allen

White has been a faculty member in the department since 1991, and teaches research methods for the Advertising and Public Relations undergraduate majors. The 2015 E. J. Schmidt Memorial Award Outstanding Senior in Journalism was Lexy Gross. By graduating from Murray State University with a degree in journalism and political science, Lexy is currently a producer for the Courier-‐Journal in Louisville, Ky. She had previously interned on the metro desk at the Chicago Tribune. At the end of last year, she finished up her term as editor-‐in-‐chief of The Murray State News. Her previous experience includes the Lexington Herald-‐Leader, The Tennessean and USA TODAY College. Dr. Melony Shemberger focuses her classes in the journalism department and provides over 15 years of in-‐the-‐field experience, which enables her to answer almost any question her students throw at her. “2014 was so loud. While I looked back on 2014, I realized in the last 22 years, I’ve never been as proud of how a year passed. I accomplished big goals and little ones. I made mistakes. I met incredible people. I learned to listen and I finished my last semester on campus at Murray State. My professors were so supportive, especially The News advisors and staff, . From helping me find enough resume paper for a ridiculously long application to letting me vent about the problems facing the News, these people believed in me, and that’s what I appreciate the most. I’m so happy I decided to go to Murray and the 3.5 years there were some of the best of my life. 2014 was so noisy, but it was the best noise I’ve ever heard.” – Lexy Gross The 2015 Outstanding Senior in Public Relations was Sierra Underhill. The public relations program offered at Murray State University provides real-‐world training and experience in planning events using strategies and tactics learned in the class. Technical skills are mastered through a sequential core set of courses that provide each graduate with a portfolio of their own work, professional experience and significant interaction with real clients and brands. Professor Marcie Hinton, Professor Elizabeth Thomas, who is also a PRSSA Faculty member provide both lower and upper division courses in public relations. My name is Haley Hays and I am a junior public relations major and photography minor at Murray State University. By doubling my focus in the journalism and mass communications department, not only have I received a well-‐rounded amount of in-‐ class as well as in-‐the-‐field experience, but I have also formed lasting friendships with my classmates as well as my professors. When you spend 90 percent of your time in Wilson Hall, you see familiar faces in every class, and that is very comforting for even the most extroverted student like myself. Your professors have also seen you wandering the halls, so they know your name as soon as you walk in the door on that first day of class and that gives anyone of any grade a sense of belonging. “I feel at home in Wilson. The professors become your friends that you casually

talk to in the halls, whether its about work or life, you just know they’re there for you and that means the world to me,” – Haley Hays

FOR NEWS RELEASE

Cell Tel: 731.441.3221 Email: hhays@murraystate.edu The voting for the 5th annual Baptist Health Paducah Pink Glove Dance ends at midnight on September 23. Baptist Health Paducah has submitted their video incorporating Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” to help raise awareness for breast cancer, and they are in a tight race for the 1st place spot. Catherine Sivills, Public Relations Director of Baptist Health, said the money from the Pink Glove Dance competition would help stimulate the continual use of new technology including 3D Mammography, which is used for detecting breast cancer. The Pink Glove Dance competition began five years ago when 200 people at the Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland, Ore., danced to the catchy tune “Down” by Jay Sean. Since the video went viral in 2009, Medline sponsored a video competition open to anyone who wanted to make their own Pink Glove Dance video. Nearly 200,000 people have danced in the competition. Medline has been flooded with calls, emails and letters expressing the joy the videos bring to people and communities around the world. Some walk. Some run. Medline has been dancing for five years. October 20, 2015 Dr. Marcie Hinton Murray State University 209 Wilson Hall Murray, KY 42071 Dear Dr. Hinton, Murray State University holds an annual Awards Banquet showcasing the hard work it’s professors have done throughout the course of the previous two semesters. The Presidential office selects the winners of the awards through an elaborate process of qualifications. The research techniques I will use include scheduling an appointment with the Presidential office asking what qualifications must be present to present an award to a person with several candidates in the same field. I can also look up previous receivers of that same award and compare their skills and abilities and see if they correspond or correlate in any way. In addition to the manuscript, I can provide photos of the President and his Office during the meetings of selecting the winners. I believe I could send you a 1,500 word article and at least 20 fully edited high resolution photos by April 16, 2015. As a photographer for the Branding and Marketing Office in Sparks Hall who regularly covers Presidential events, I can efficiently and accurately cover the event on a photogenic side as well as writing. My connections with President Davies’s Secretary and the President himself will allow personal insight on the selection process. If you have any questions or would like to speak to me further about my manuscript, please do not hesitate to call or write. Thank you for considering this article for publication. I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Haley Hays Photographer
