Domestic violence against women is a global crisis and there is a need for access to support services and housing for women in rural areas. The goal of Frontier Family is to provide long term housing for victims and their children, while fostering a sense of community and offering services to address their physical,
mental, and emotional needs.
Frontier Family allowed Haley to tackle a problem that is so prevalent in today’s society. Sexual assault is a national issue and it is especially evident in rural America, specifically in Alaska, were victims do not have access to the help and resources that they need. This facility was designed to give abuse victims long term transitional housing, as well provide any resources to serve their physical, mental and emotional needs. The design of Frontier Family gives abused women and their children a sanctuary and a sense of home, as well as support and protection in an environment where they can draw strength from those around them.
