EX1-CW: Description: For our first lecture, we were asked to draw any object we had with us, and I drew a pencil sharpener.

Feedback: I was told that the lines were not very neat, and there was not much depth, but the proportions were good Reflection: It looks quite flat, but it is good for a first time. Maybe if I spent more time on it it would have been better Process & Material Selection: pencil, A4 paper

EX3-HW: Grade: Description: We were asked to draw and render any object at home and I picked an AC remote. I picked a simple object so that I could focus on the shading to improve it from the last assignment.

Feedback: I was told that there should be no outlines around objects to make them look more realistic. The composition and neatness were good, but some of the lines were not very clear.

Reflection: Erasing the outlines and adding more depth would have made it much better.

EX4-CW: Grade: 9.5 Description: We were given a composition of a chair in a garden and were told to draw the angle we saw it from and render it with a pencil.

Feedback: I was told that the perspective was realistic but the shadow should be darkest where it meets the object and fade out gradually. Some areas are not very neat around the legs of the chair.

The proportions were ok except that some of the legs were of different lengths.

Reflection: Using darker pencils to add depth would have made this less flat. some of the legs are different lengths, but this was before we took perspective so I am proud of this attempt. Now I would draw this in a two-point perspective to ensure all the legs are correctly placed.

EX5-HW: Description: We were asked to draw and render an object from 6 different angles/positions I chose a clay vase.

Feedback: refer to the photo Reflection: it was very difficult to relate the proportions in different angles but it was quite interesting to attempt to render them in similar styles using different mediums Process & Material Selection: Mixed Media, A3 paper

EX6-CW: Grade: 9.5 Description: We were told to use pencils to render any scene with a focal point that fades out.

Feedback: As i was drawing this, I was told to add more depth to make it look 3D, and when I did it looked much better as shown here, the lines were not very neat and they blended into each other.

Reflection: using an HB pencil would make this a lot more defined.

Experimenting with shading in a view that has lots of depth was very interesting but challenging.

EX7-HW: Grade: 8.5 Description: We were told to draw any interior detail and render it with pencil with a focal point.

Feedback: The lines blended into each other and were not very neat because of only using B pencils.

Reflection: Again, using a HB pencil around the edges would solve this issue, but I had not learned this yet as i drew this right after the previous assignment Process & Material Selection: pencil, A4 paper

EX8-CW: Grade: ungraded Description: We were asked to draw an object in the gardens on campus and render it with watercolors.

Feedback: I was told that the composition was awkward, the shadow of the overlapping leaves was not clear but the coloring technique was very good.

Reflection: adding more leaves to the right side would have made it more proportional. Drawing the overall compositions first, instead of adding elements as I go would improve the composition but this was good for a first time using watercolors. It was very fun and I found painting flowers specifically to be very enjoyable.

EX9-HW: Grade: 8.5 Description:

We were asked to draw fruit and render it with watercolors Feedback: I was told that it seemed quite flat as the range of hues was quite narrow. The shadow was unrealistic, but the composition and details were very good Reflection: darkening the face opposing the light source wold make it more 3D. Here i was starting to get more used to watercolors and found that they came more naturally to me than pencil shading, so i tried to experiment with layering, splashing and dripping techniques, which i thhink turned out well for the texture of the banana.

EX10-CW: Grade: 9.0 Description: We were told to experiment with markers by making quick sketches of any scene.

Feedback: I was told that the rendering was great except for around the window as some elements got lost as the lines were not very clear/neat.

Reflection: Outlining some of the edges would have made it less flat and more clear, but this was a very quick sketch. I tried to experiment with the different tips of the markers and all the shades - although they looked interesting , it was a bit overdone and distracting.

EX11-HW: Grade: 9.5 Description: We were asked to draw a piece of furniture and render it with markers, and I chose a chair in a coffee shop.

Feedback: I was told to increase the highlights and round out the shadow in the seat cushion. And I was told to avoid darkening the elements from the start with markers, to make it easier to add highlights and depth later on.

Reflection: If I had used a wider range of values it would have been a bit more realistic. I found it very difficult to layer and shade with markers, especially the darker colors.

EX13-CW: Grade: ungraded Description:

We were asked to draw any two point perspective from observation.

Feedback: I was told that the perspective was ok for a first try Improvements: I was getting more comfortable with the rules of perspective with lots of trial and error so I did not have time to complete this in class.

EX12-CW: Grade: ungraded Description:

We were asked to draw any one-point perspective from observation.

Feedback: I was told that the perspective was great, but the composition did not show the one-point perspective very much.

Improvements: If the picture was a bit zoomed out, more elements would have shown making it more visually appealing and emphasizing the one-point perspective a bit more.

EX14-HW: Gade: 9.0 Description: A drawing using a one-point perspective and watercolors. I decided to get creative and sit between the shelves of the campus library.

Feedback: I was told that the perspective was correct but the colors were not well defined and that they blended into each other.

Reflection: I got so carried away with picking the location that I did not have enough time to thoroughly render the piece. Using pencil colors or ink liners to outline some edges would have made it much clearer.

EX15-CW/HW: Grade: 10 Description: We were asked to draw an exterior perspective on campus and I chose Moataz Al Alfi because of the vibrance of the colors and the uniqueness of the structure.

Feedback: I was given positive feedback on the composition, rendering, and perspective however it was missing the shadows as we had not learned to do this yet.

Personal Reflection: I spent the most time on this out of all of my other assignments, and worked on it on several days. This allowed me to view it with fresh eyes and make improvements that thankfully got me to this grade. Looking back, I wish I had used a ruler on the blue squares as they make it a bit messy.

EX17-CW: Grade: 9.5 Description: We were asked to drop shadow on 3 basic objects in a composition Feedback: I was told I needed to add more tones/depth to the shading to make it more 3D. But it was very creative and was advised to add the lines of light coming from the lamp.

Personal Reflection: I think the light was not very well executed, and pencil rendering is not my strong suit so this put me off a little when trying to create texture and depth.

EX18-HW: Gade: 9.5 Description: A composition of 3 objects in a dramatic scene Feedback: I was told that I should add more depth (increase the use of the darker grey marker on the big mug), but the shadow, proportion, and neatness were ok.

Personal Reflection: I think this assignment showed huge progress from my previous marker assignments as I practiced the techniques a lot in my sketchbook before applying them.

Orthogonal Drawings-CW: Grade: 8.0 Description: We were asked to draw 2 elevations, a plan, a section, and a layout of a chair from observation.

Feedback: I was told that the proportions of the legs to the seat were incorrect and that the hatching was missing in some areas. The rendering was good.

Personal Reflection: the rules of orthogonal drawings and hatching were very confusing, so I got too distracted to focus on the proportions and such.

EX20-HW: Gade: 8.0 Description: We were given a plan and an elevation and told to trace it on tracing paper, render it, and drop shadows.

Feedback: Ì was told that the color of the house should've been darker to stand out and that the shadows were too dark.

Personal Feedback: This was my first plan/elevation so I found the rules of dropping shadows and the wall colors very confusing, i also had to do it twice because, after the first discussion, I was told I used the wrong tracing paper. This made me quite distraught and hurried so I did not have much time to think about how I could improve the rendering.

THE CONCEPT:

We see all types of cultures, histories, and building techniques reflected in Cairo's architecture, and what fascinates me is that they can all coexist within the same neighborhood or even on the same street but this "puzzle" truly is the essence of Egypt's diverse architecture.

Grade: 88 Feedback: the rendering was very good but the concept was not very clear Reflection: I should have made the map more clearly a puzzle and made the shadow more subtle on the first page.

Bonus Assignment: Grade: 8.5 Description: We were asked to draw anything inspired by Ammar's Watercolor technique Feedback: It was not clear where the light was coming from and the shading/tones were very limited Personal Reflection: I turned it to black and white to see how i should shade it, and i tried to be quick with my brush strokes and messy with the colors, like Ammar did. i should have used more shades and vibrant colors would make it better Process & Material Selection: watercolor as a base, pencil colors for detail, and ink for subtle outlines, A4 paper.

EX22-CW: Grade: 9.0 Description: We were asked to draw any texture from observation and I picked a palm tree as I thought it was very detailed and interesting Feedback: I was told that the rendering was good but needed more depth. it was quite neat.
