IGNITING OUR Dear Haitian Ladies, Whether you are a first time attendee or a returning guest, on behalf of the sisterhood behind the Haitian Ladies Network® we thank you for being here and it’s an honor to host you.

Igniting Our Power Weekends are meant to create a unique experience for each Haitian lady. Whether your favorite part of the weekend is the music, the dancing, the food, the fellowship or just an exciting time away from home, it will all be infused with Haiti’s culture.

The culture that lives in all of us, please take this time to connect and reconnect.

Why we gather - Because we must! Now more than ever it’s important to bring together Haiti’s daughters. Our country and our people continue to go through difficult times, but they must not be forgotten.

We must spend time in fellowship re-discovering who we are, reigniting our power and finding ways to use our power. We are the descendants of a great nation, of powerful people and we must keep that fighting spirit alive. We believe in civic engagement, we spend time thinking of ways to engage with Haiti, and support through friendship or other means those who are engaging directly with Haiti.

Haiti’s future is in the hands of its people wherever we are.

We hope you enjoy the 3 day line up we have curated with you, the Haitian lady in mind this weekend. We hope you leave us feeling reignited and rejuvenated. We must continue to gather in honor of Haiti!

OUR IMPACT Thank you for joining the 2023 Haitian Ladies Weekend. Whether this is your first weekend with us or you a returnee, we are thankful for your participation into our lakou.

We are a powerful, professional, and social global network connecting more than 95,000 Haitian women from across the U.S, Haiti and throughout the world. Our mission is to create the largest global platform connecting all women and girls of Haitian descent to build community, share inspiration, and celebrate cultural heritage.

Our story began more than 18 years ago with a small annual networking brunch in Washington, DC for five professional women that evolved into a sold-out, three-day, annual, gathering that seeded the Haitian Ladies Network® Weekend. We are an active, year-round network engaging members daily with trusted content uniquely designed to respond to their interests, needs, and long-term aspirations.

With the support of attendees like you, we have been able to build a strong community. Together, we have: • Promoted 500+ women-led, Haitian businesses and enterprises •P rovided opportunities for 100+ Haitian women entrepreneurs to showcase and sell their products at our annual conference marketplace •H osted more than 50 networking and educational activities in the past three years •P resented over 100 prominent Haitian women changemakers and leaders

• Showcased more than 75 artists and performers • Featured over 50 Haitian women running for elected office • Offered training session to 100+ Haitian voters on voter registration • Provided financial management training to 300+ Haitian women, including saving for college and retirement The qualitative impact is that we have helped thousand of women reconnect with friends, family members and their Haitian culture Your support sustains us. DR. MARIE MARCELLE BUTEAU RACINE (AKA MAYE) Professor Racine was a “rebel with a cause”, compassionately stubborn in her mission to educate and enrich the lives of all she encountered throughout her journey. She was an educator and an activist who marched for civil rights in the US; she marched against the dictatorship in Haiti; she worked tirelessly for the rights of Haitians and other refugees and for all oppressed people; co-founded or chaired several non-profit organizations, most notably the Haitian Refugee Project, the Washington Office on Haiti, Friends of Haiti, Fonkoze, the Lambi Fund of Haiti, and the Akademi Kreyol Ayisyen.

Her love for her native country, Haiti, and the people of the African Diaspora were evident in everything that she dedicated her life to. She lifted all boats, cared about our elders, who gave so much to us, and invested in our youth, especially women, on whose shoulders our future rests.

May her life inspire us all to learn, love and serve like a mapou.

KARINE JEAN-PIERRE WHITE HOUSE PRESS SECRETARY AND ASSISTANT TO THE PRESIDENT Karine Jean-Pierre is currently the Press Secretary and Assistant to the President. She is the first Black person and first openly queer person to serve as the White House Press Secretary. Karine is a long-time advisor to President Biden, having served in senior communication and political roles in the Biden Administration, the Biden campaign, and in the Obama Administration.

Prior to her role on the campaign, she served as Chief Public Affairs Officer for MoveOn.org and an NBC and MSNBC Political Analyst. Jean-Pierre served as Regional Political Director for the White House Office of Political Affairs during the Obama-Biden administration and as Deputy Battleground States Director for President Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign. She served as Southeast Regional Political Director for President Obama’s 2008 campaign, Deputy Campaign Manager for Martin O’Malley for President, Campaign Manager for the ACLU’s Reproductive Freedom Initiative, and Deputy Chief of Staff and Director of Legislative and Budget Affairs for two members in the New York City Council.

Previously, she worked at the Center for Community and Corporate Ethics, pushing major companies to change their business practices, and is a published author. Born in Martinique and raised in New York, Jean-Pierre is a graduate of Columbia University.

MICHÈLE MONTAS AWARD-WINNING JOURNALIST Michèle Montas is an award-winning journalist with over twenty years’ experience at Radio HaitiInter which she directed after her husband, journalist Jean Dominique was gunned down in 2000. During her three forced exiles in New York, Michèle Montas worked in Communications for the United Nations, serving for 3 years as Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General and later as Senior Adviser to the UNMission in Haiti.

She has served since as a consultant for the UN. She is a 2002 recipient of the Maria Moors Cabot Prize for excellence in reporting from Columbia University( NY) and a 2003 recipient of the Reporters Without Borders’ Prize for the Defense of Freedom of the Press (Paris). In 2005, she also received the Percy Qoboza award from the National Association of Black journalists. She holds a BA degree from the University of Maine, an MS degree from Columbia University’s School of Journalism and an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from the University of Maine.

In 2017, her documentary film Douvan Jou Ka Leve (The Day Will Dawn) won seven awards and it continues to be shown around the world. Freda is her first feature film.

HELP PROVIDES HELP is Haiti’s largest scholarship & leadership program, providing university scholarships, leadership training, and job readiness skills to highachieving, low-income students. Founded in 1996, HELP has 187 students currently enrolled in Haitian universities and over 280 graduates.

Haiti has one of the lowest university enrollment rates at 1% and the highest rate of brain drain with over 80% of university educated Haitians living abroad.

To combat this, HELP has developed a comprehensive scholarship and leadership training program which prepares and empowers students to build professional careers in Haiti and contribute to the development of their communities.
