5th of October 1789 March on Versailles
End of revolution, end of ‘her’ life
It was a cloudy Sunday. I woke up and went to see Amelia. Recently, she got much better but still recovering from an unknown disease. When I was giving her a stale bread, someone knocked on our door. I opened it and women were asking if they can see Amelia. They are very benevolent and hard working ladies. Without any doubts, I led them to her bedroom. I heard them whispering and something about Versailles*. “My kids are starving, please help us and be part of it”. I could barely hear anything and I was clueless in what they were saying. I see fogs through raining Monday morning. First the murky scenery, then an ambiguous future of France. That’s how I see things now. Amelia dressed up and was finding for muskets. I asked her why she needs one but she kept her mouths shut and said “You will know very soon”. I tried to let her stay but she did not listen to me at all. What is going on? When Amelia opened the door, her face was just like mine before storming to the bastille. Women must be planning on something extremely significant. Maybe, they are paving the road for a new path in France. As soon as Amelia got out, the beat of a drum soon filled up the entire Paris. Thousands of women were shouting “Pain! Pain*”. They were heading to Madam Déficit* and King Louis the XVI. I rallied all the men around Place de la révolution*. When I asked them about what is happening, they replied: “Isn’t it obvious? Men, brawl for the country and Women, for their family. Already few kids have died of starvation. They are going to capture the king and the queen” “What are the women going to do with them?” The man next to him asked. “Well, they would ask more like threaten for more breads or even kill them” “Are they crazy? They are even more bold than the men!” A crowd started to bustle. The square soon became very clamorous and people started to talk about their own opinions. But I couldn't say anything. Amelia went to the Versailles with a mob of 7000 angry women?! She’s not even cured yet, it’s too dangerous for her. I should’ve stopped her and force her to stay! It’s too late to follow the crowd. What else can I do? “Nothing much have changed after our revolutionary in the bastille. Would women’s march change anything? Ha. I don't think so” Monsieur Nedellec criticized the women’s act. For me, except that Amelia followed them, I can feel that this could really bring a new constitution in France. How long have we suffered, how much have we tried…? If the women fail, we can make another attempts. Don’t underestimate the third estate’s tenacity. We are going to try our best until this nation shows a change. The drum beats and women’s shouting are still lingering in my ears. My heart is blazing up, but I still can’t filter out my anxiety towards Amelia.
