‫يذكر الفنان عبدالله حماس‪١٩٥3‬م أشد المواقف بالغة يف حياته الفنية عندما كان يدرس يف معهد التربية ‬ ‫الفنية بالرياض عام ‪١٩٧2‬م والحظ معلمه الفنان العراقي سلمان الدليمي محاوالته المبكرة يف الرسم الواقعي ‬ ‫والرمزي وأعجب بها ويستطرد أنه عندما بدأ يرسم أعماله التجريدية األوىل راود معلمه الشك ما إذا كان ‬ ‫صاحبها‪ ،‬من هنا نشآت بينهما عالقة متبادلة ساهمت يف تعزيز ثقته بنفسه حتى ان حماس عرض عليه اعمال ‬ ‫معرضه األول قبل ان تستقبلها قاعة العرض اعترافآ ووفاء بالجميل الذي قدم له الدليمي يف مسيرته التعليمية‪.‬‬ ‫غير أن هذه القصة ال تكتمل من دون إشارته إيل دعم عائلته لموهبته يف الرسم منذ طفولته‪ ،‬ويدين حماس ‬ ‫بالفضل لوالده حماس بن سلطان العسيري يرحمه الله ىف أحتضان وتحقيق حلمه والوقوف بجانبه عندما ‬ ‫كان يشتري له علب األلوان وكراريس الرسم تشجيعآ له‪ ،‬وتقديرآ لبالغة موهبته إبان دراسته يف الصفوف ‬ ‫التعليمية المبكرة يف مدينتي الطائف وتبوك التي إنتقل اليهما تباعآ بحكم عمل والده يف المجال العسكري‪.‬‬ ‫يكشف حماس هذه المواقف متتابعة كلما سمحت له الفرصة مثل تعويذة عىل بالغة موهبته‪ ،‬أصبحت فيمآ ‬ ‫بعد مؤشرآ حقيقيآ للرهان عىل دخوله اىل عالم الفنون التشكيلية‪ ،‬التقى حماس يف معهد التربية الفنية ‬ ‫بمعلمين أكاديميين يف لحظة زمنية كانت فيها مناهج التعليم تزخر بتيارات عصر النهضة مثل السريالية ‬ ‫والتكعيبية والتجريدية‬ ‫درس حماس يف معهد التربية الفنية تقنيات تيارات عصر النهضة التكعيبية التي المست طقوسها ‬ ‫المتداخلة حيوية تجربته المبكرة والزالت مؤثراتها ملحوضة بشكل ما عىل تكويناته‪ ،‬يقول حماس انه اعجب ‬ ‫بالتكعيبي جورج براك ووصيفه بيكاسو واخذ عنهم ما اعانه عىل تحقيق خصوصيته الجمالية المتفردة‪ ،‬فيما ‬ ‫استفاد من مالحقة تقنيات بيت موندريان اللونية الصريحة والمتقشفة وفق بناء عقالني منتظم‬ ‫‪ .1‬ألوان زيتية عىل الورق‪ 75x66 /‬سم‬

‫تأثر حماس يف تضاريس طقوسه الجمالية بالرعيل األول من التشكيليين العراقيين الذين إتصلت منجزاتهم‬ ‫اإلبداعية يف السبعينيات بمفاهيم فكرية و جمالية تتصل بالهوية واألصالة والمعاصرة ومن خالل إنحيازها‬ ‫للمورث الشعبي والتراث وحموالت من ذاكرة العمارة يف المدن العتيقة والقرى الحالمة يف تضاريسها العريقة‬ ‫وفضآل عن ذلك يعتبر حماس واحدآ من الفنانين القالئل الذين إحتفت تجربتهم بالطقوس التجريدية مبكرآ يف‬ ‫المحترف التشكييل السعودي وممن استأسدوا ببالغة مضامينها البسيطة ومنذ تلك اللحضة أخذ عىل عاتقه‬ ‫صياغة خصوصيته الفنية وبالغة حساسيته الجمالية المرهفة التي شكلت حضورآ هامآ ومتفردآ يف السعودية‬ ‫خاصة بعد ان إستوعب تقنيات التكعيبية والتجريدية والرمزية وإيقاعاتها التي تعتمد عىل التكوينات‬ ‫المكعبة والمساحات الفراغية المتراشحة وفق منظورها المتداخل بصريآ كما استفاد من تقنيات االلوان‬ ‫الصريحة وتعدد مجموعاتها وتقاربها وتراشقها ونسج منها توليفات لونية تنبع من محيط قريته مثل مروج‬ .‫وحقول تمتد كآفق ال نهاية له‬ ‫عبدالعزيز عاشور‬ ‫ جدة‬،20١٥ ‫أغسطس‬

THE ARTIST, Abdullah Hammas (born in 1953), remembers one of the peaks of his career, while he was studying in the institute of art in Riyadh in 1972 and his teacher, the Iraqi artist Salman Dulaimi, noticed and admired his first attempt at realist and symbolic art. He continues to remember when he first started painting abstract, his teacher doubted it was truly his work. From there, started a relationship that reinforced Hammas’ self confidence. Hammas even showed his teacher his first complete artwork before displaying it in his first exhibition as a token of appreciation for Dulaimi’s motivation and support for Hammas.

However, his story is not complete until he expresses the amount of support his family gave him since he was a child. He stresses on the role his father, Mr. Hammas Ben Sultan Al Ouseiry (May his soul rest in peace), through buying him the coloring crayons and coloring books as an encouragement for his talent. His father also appreciated his talent while young

Hammas studied in early learning classes in the cities of “Taef” and “Tabok” and which he moved to back to back as per his father’s work.

Hammas mentions these situations whenever he gets a chance to do so as a sign of his true talent, which in turn later became insurance for him to enter the world of abstract art.

Hammas met two renowned teachers at the institute of art at a moment in time where art witnessed new currents from the renaissance era such as surrealism, abstract, and cubism.

Hammas studied at the institute of art, the techniques of cubism of the renaissance era, that I turn, marked his early works and is still visible in his recent paintings. Hammas says that his work in cubism is inspired by George Braque and Picasso and that he used their work to create his own individuality. He also benefited from chasing the frank and colorful techniques of Piet Mondrian through an organized mindset.

Hammas’ work was also affected by the first group of abstract Iraqi artist, whose work in the seventies was connected to ideologies related to identity and authenticity and modernism through its loyalty to cultural heritage and loads from the memory of architecture in ancient cities and old towns, and it’s beautiful topography. Moreover, Hammas is considered to be one of the few artists whose early work in abstract was celebrated early by the elite of abstracts artists in Saudi Arabia, and whose work

was applauded for its simplicity. Since that moment, Hammas made sure to keep his originality and his beautiful sensitivity, which was immensely present in Saudi Arabia, especially after he excelled in the techniques of cubism, abstract, and symbolism; and its rhythm which depends on cubic compositions and great spaces upon an intertwined perspective. He also took advantage of explicit coloring techniques and its multiple groups and closeness as he weaved combinations of color that rise from the ocean of his hometown like meadows that extend infinitely.

Hammas clung to the different faces of life in the town of “Aseir”. His works ranged to reveal austere and simple cubism in its folkloric coloring and spontaneous compositions which is connected to architecture in an instance, and to spaces taken from a dream in another. Hammas used the topography of his hometown of Aseir, he still carries it as a beautiful heritage just like a lover.

In this exhibition, Hammas displays his vision that reveals his strong memory, that spontaneously shows on the walls of his paintings as he reconstructs it’s compositions

by Human insinuations, fashion, rugs, symbols and supplies of coloring immersed in its locality; and which in turn reveals an amount of pleasure like a lullaby he sings through his creations.

Hammas paints on his, unusually small, paintings, features of people in a symbolic

and spontaneous lines which he distributes like a farmer would distribute his crop. It appears as if its preparing to receive the bright morning, while others appear to have a seated position as if taking a break from a long and hard day.

Hammas grants women a big piece of the cake, and he adds to their glory by decorating their heads with studded veils that show his close knowledge with the beautiful traditions of village women more than that of city woman. These imaginations enjoy a lawful marriage with its surroundings. They also reveal his loyalty to ever regenerate the heritage of his hometown. At the end of the day, he is an artist that works on recreating his world once and again like a lover that embraces his world without boredom.

Hammas reinforces, through a group of his valued work, the presence of his explicit coloring according to color splashing techniques and close color shading. However, in another group of work he celebrates folkloric colors scattered on the walls of his paintings like chess pieces that go on till infinity. These imaginations reassures his strong talents, technical skills, experience, and originality; that he inherited once he realized the strong relationship between him and his hometown, considering it his identity that he can use to promote himself as a creative artist wherever he goes.

،‫ يعيش متنقآل بين جدة ومسقط رأسه أبها‬،‫م‬١٩٥3 ‫ولد عبدالله حماس يف قرية عاصم بمدينة أبها عام‬ ‫م يعتبر واحدآ من أهم‬١٩٧3 ‫ درس بمعهد التربية الفنية بالرياض وتخرج منه عام‬،‫متفرغ لعالمه الفني‬ ‫م‬١٩٧2 ‫ مثلت مشاركته يف معرض الفن واألدب يف بيروت‬،‫الفنانين التجريدين يف المحترف السعودي‬ ‫ ترأس لجنة الفنون‬،‫م‬١٩٧4 ‫ أقام أول معرض شخصي بالرياض‬،‫أول حضور له يف المشهد التشكييل‬ ‫التشكيلية بجمعية الثقافة والفنون بجدة و شغل منصب األمين العام يف بيت الفنانين التشكيليين‬ ‫ أقام أكثر من ثالثين معرضأ شخصيآ يف السعودية وعدة عواصم من بينها القاهرة والمغرب‬،‫سابقا‬ ،‫ وشارك يف العديد من المعارض المحلية والدولية بكل من فانكوفر بكندا والواليات المتحدة‬،‫وباريس‬ ‫ كما مثل المملكة يف ملتقيات تشكيلية يف االردن والكويت ومصر‬،‫ أمريكا‬،‫ فرنسا‬،‫ المانيا‬،‫بريطانيا‬ ‫ تقتني لوحاته العديد من الجهات الرسمية‬،‫ حصل عىل العديد من الجوائز و شهادات التقدير‬.‫والشارقة‬ ‫يف المملكة وخارجها من بينها مؤسسة المنصورية والمتحف اإلسالمي بعمان ومتحف عبد الرؤوف خليل‬ ‫ يرى أن الفن متنفسآ يطرح من‬،‫ فضالً عن العديد من صاالت العرض يف بعض العواصم الدولية‬،‫بجدة‬ ‫خالله جماليات الكون والطبيعة والفرح وكلما تعلق بالحياة‬

ABDALLAH HAMMAS, was born in the city of Abha in Saudi Arabia, in the year of 1953.

He lives between Jeddah and his hometown of Abha as he practices his art, full time.

He studied at the institute of art in the city of Riyadh and he graduated in 1973. He is considered to be one of Saudi’s best abstract artists. His work premiered in the exhibition of art and literature in Beirut 1972, which was his first exhibition as an abstract artist.

His first personal exhibition was in the city of Riyadh in 1973. He became the president of the foundation of fine arts in Jeddah as he was also previously appointed as the secretarygeneral of the house of fine artists. He opened more than 30 personal exhibitions in Saudi Arabia and several other cities such as Cairo, Morocco, and Paris. He also participated in local and international exhibitions including Vancouver in Canada, USA, United Kingdom, Germany, France, and he also represented the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in several forums of fine arts in Jordan, Kuwait, Egypt, and Sharjah.

He acquired several awards and recognitions and his paintings are on display at several Official agencies in Saudi Arabia and outside it; including “Al Mansourieh” foundation, the Islamic Museum, “Abdel Raouf Khalil” museum in Jeddah, in addition to several art galleries in some international cities. He considers art to be an outlet displayed through the beauties of the universe, nature, and joy which often imitates life.

‫‪TAHA AL SABBAN‬‬

‫ال يتردد طه الصبان ‪١٩٤٨‬م يف رواية لقاءه بالفنان المرحوم عبدالحليم رضوي عندما علم بوصوله ايل‬ ‫ارض الوطن منتصف الستينات وبعث اليه برسالة يطلب لقاءه وعندما حان الموعد قدم الصبان رسمة‬ ‫لبورترية يصور فيه الرضوي هدية لقاءهما األول‪ ،‬و لم يتوقع الصبان فيما بعد أن تنشأ بينهما عالقة‬ ‫مبجلة رسمت بينهما خطوط من الطول والعرض لم يفرقهما غير القدر‪ ،‬مات صديق عمره ومعلمه بعدما‬ ‫إمتدت عالقتهما أكثر من أربعين عامآ‪ ،‬ال زال حضور هذه العالقة عالقآ يف ذاكرته اإلنسانية المتفردة‪.‬‬ ‫يقول الصبان أنه سيظل يدين للرضوي بالكثير فقد أعانه عىل أن يبقى متيقضآ تجاه خصوصيته الجمالية‬ ‫وتفوقه يف المحترف المحيل يف بدايته المبكرة ويستطرد قائآل أول مواقف الرضوي يرحمه بدأت عندما وضع‬ ‫اسمي ضمن المشاركين عام ‪ ١٩٦٧‬م يف آول معرض يقام عىل قاعة مركز الفنون الجميلة بإعتباره أول مركز‬ ‫للنشاط التشكييل يف البالد ويف مدينة جدة تحديدآ‪ ،‬شارك الصبان يف هذا المعرض مع نخبة من الفنانين‬ ‫المبدعين الذين إبتعثوا للدراسة خارج المملكة‪ ،‬معتبرآ هذا الموقف وتلك المشاركة شرفا وتشجيعآ له وإشارة‬ ‫واضحة للرهان عىل موهبته و دفاعآ عن مصيره كفنان مبدع جدير بالتقدير‪.‬‬ ‫سافر الصبان اىل بيروت عام ‪ ١٩٦٦‬م عندما كانت قبلة العالم العربي ومنبر المثقفين والمبدعين عىل‬ ‫مختلف أشكالهم ما عزز إحساسه بأهمية الفن‪ ،‬وإبان عودته يف نفس العام قرر دراسة الفن يف روما حيث‬ ‫كانت هي األخرى قبلة الفنانين من بقاع األرض‪ ،‬و منبرآ لتيارات الفكر الجمايل‪ ،‬فور وصوله إىل روما‬ ‫حاصرته الظروف اإلجتماعية القاهرة‪ ،‬فإنهزم عائدا من مدينة الفنون حامآل خيبة أمل دون أن يتحقق‬ ‫له إستكمال دراسة الفنون الجميلة يف إحدى أكاديميات إيطاليا‪ ،‬عاد الصبان بسبب مرض والده يرحمه‬ ‫الله‪ ،‬الذي توىف بعد مرضه مباشرة‪ ،‬وقد أجبرته تلك العودة عىل اإللتحاق بوزارة اإلعالم من أجل مستقبله‬ ‫اإلجتماعي ومن أجل الوقوف إىل جانب عائلته‪.‬‬ ‫غير أن صبان عاد وأستأسد لموهبته عندما سافر إىل بريطانيا لدراسة إخراج برامج التلفزيون‪ ،‬إذ منحته‬ ‫تلك الرحلة امآل ليصبح فنانآ‪ ،‬يف بريطانيا عرف الصبان أن الفن ضرورة حضارية يف حياة مجتمعها‪،‬‬ ‫فحرضته تلك الثقافة عىل إنتاج مجموعة من األعمال الفنية التي سجل بها إقامة أول معارضه يف مدينة‬ ‫كوليشيستر عام ‪١٩٧٥‬م ثم تاله معرضآ آخر يف مدينة جالسكو عام ‪١٩٧٦‬م لقد أثارت رحلته اللندنية بالغة‬ ‫موهبته الفنية المبكرة تجاه الفن وساهمت يف ترسيخ ثقته بنفسه‪ ،‬وال يقف الصبان عند هذا الحد بل‬ ‫يكشف مرارا دور والده السيد محمد صالح الصبان يرحمه الله يف دعم موهبته معنويآ وماديآ عندما كان‬ ‫يعينه عىل ممارسة هوايته بشراء الكراسات واأللوان مشترطآ عىل ابنه اال تمتد هذه الهواية عىل حساب‬ ‫دراسته‪ ،‬يشعر صبان بغصة يف نفسه ان والده لم يشاهد او يعرف ماوصل إليه ابنه الفنان من شهرة‬ ‫طه الصبان‬

‫جعلته واحدا من بين الفنانين األكثر أهمية يف المحترف التشكييل السعودي‪.‬‬ ‫ولد طه الصبان يف مكة المكرمة قبلة المسلمين قاطبة وأطهر بقاع األرض‪ ،‬عاش طفولته يف المدينة‬ ‫المقدسة بكل طقوسها وعوالمها األثيرة إبتداء من العمارة يف المساجد والقباب النورانية مرورآ بطقوس‬ ‫الحياة اإلجتماعية الموغلة يف التقاليد الشرقية وأنتهاءا بالعالمات واإلشارات البليغة مثل تدافع الحجاج‬ ‫بمختلف جنسياتهم وثقافتهم وتدفق البضائع بتعدد أنواعها وأشكالها‪.‬‬ ‫وفضآل عن ذلك فقد عززت تنقالته مع عائلته بين مكة وجدة مكتسبات جديدة تتصل بالمدينة التاريخية‬ ‫والبحر عشقه األول الذي الزال يمارس سحره عىل بالغته الفنية‪ ،‬يذهب الصبان اىل البحر ليختيل بالمبدع‬ ‫داخله كما يف خلوة مع قلبه‪ ،‬لقد ساهمت كل تلك الذخائر يف تعزيز استلهام ذاكرة المدينة المقدسة‬ ‫والتاريخية والبحر وقد استفاد من صياغة تلك المتخيالت عندما اعتنق المفاهيم الجمالية التي تتصل‬ ‫باألصالة والمعاصرة التي انتصبت عىل جدران لوحاته التي نلمس من خاللها الطرز البنائية والمعمارية‬ ‫والرمزية والشكلية التي تتشكل منها المدن العتيقة‬ ‫‪TAHA doesn’t hesitate to tell the story of how he‬‬ ‫‪met the late artist AbdelHalim Radwi. When Taha‬‬ ‫‪first learned of his arrival to the homeland during‬‬ ‫‪the mid sixties and he had received a letter from‬‬ ‫‪his asking for a meeting. When the time set for‬‬ ‫‪the meeting arrived, Sabban painted a portrait of‬‬ ‫‪Al Radwi as a gift for the meeting.‬‬ ‫‪Sabban did not predict that this meeting would‬‬ ‫‪be a beginning of a much venerated relationship‬‬ ‫‪that only destiny could end. Sabban’s old friend‬‬ ‫‪died after more than 40 years of friendship‬‬ ‫‪that is still present through his personal and‬‬ ‫‪individual memory.‬‬ ‫‪Sabban says that he will always be in debt to Al‬‬ ‫‪Radwi for mentoring him through his beginnings‬‬ ‫‪and teaching him to focus on his individuality‬‬ ‫‪and his skills locally. He follows up remembering‬‬ ‫‪Al Radwi (may his soul rest in peace) when he‬‬ ‫‪listed Sabban’s name amongst the participants‬‬ ‫‪in the first exhibition to be held in the hall of‬‬

‫تكشف أعماله يف المعرض صور ومتخيالت وطقوس إستلهمها من المدينة المقدسة مسقط رأسه‬ ‫والمدينة التاريخية جدة التي جسد الصبان موروثاتها البصرية التي تمتد من اىل الحياة العامة والفلكلور‬ ‫الشعبي و تضاريس البحر والمراكب المتالصقة كما يف مؤاني المدن القديمة‪ ،‬يستثمر الصبان كل‬ ‫الطقوس التي من شأنها إحياء الذاكرة الزمانية والمكانية يف المدن التاريخية كما يف فيلم تسجييل‬ ‫يستعيد فيه ذاكرة اإلمكنة والحياة بكل القيم التي إحتضنتها أروقتها الحية و التي ال ينفك الصبان من‬ ‫اعادة تصوير تفاصيلها البسيطة والتي تتصل بإحياء الموروث وتعزيز بنية الهوية المحلية‬ ‫تكشف تكويناته إستحضار المرأة يف أشد حاالتها حضورآ يف المدن القديمة‪ ،‬فمرة نراها يف مشهد فلكلور‬ ‫غنائي متماهية بأجسادها الرشيقة ومرة يف مشهد جماعي مثل حسناوت يطرزن امسية مشتركة‪ ،‬تكشف‬ ‫صباغاته اللونية إنحيازه لأللوان األكثر فرحآ والتي تبدوا متعانقة ومتصالحة مع متخيالته البصرية‪.‬‬ ‫يعشق الصبان العمارة العربية القديمة التي تتزين جدرانها بالرواشين والمشربيات التي طالما تغنى بها‬ ‫البيت العربي كما يعشق البحر والصيادين والمراكب التي تثير بالغتها الجمالية المرهفه هدفآ ساميآ‬ ‫بإعتبارها مصدرآ للرزق وللغذاء كما هو حال كل المدن التاريخية العتيقة التي تسكننا كيفما كانت‬ ‫عبدالعزيز عاشور‬ ‫أغسطس ‪ ،20١٥‬جدة‬

fine arts centre which was considered as the first centre for fine arts activities in the city of Jeddah. Al Sabban participated in this exhibition with several of the best artists in the country who studied art abroad. He considered his participation as an encouragement and honor, and a clear sign for him to bank on his talent and to defend his destiny as renowned artist.

Sabban traveled to Beirut when it was the center of the Arab world and a platform for all creative and cultural minds in their different talents, which in turn reassured his sense of the importance of art. He later decide, upon his return in the same year, to study art in Rome which was also a platform for international artists and aesthetic currents of thoughts.

As soon as he reached Rome he was cornered by terrible social issues, he then returned disappointed and defeated without having the chance to continue his studies in one of Italy’s best art schools. Sabban returned amidst his father’s illness (May his soul rest in peace), who passed away right after he got sick. This setback forced him to join the Ministry of Information to insure a better social future and to stand by his family.

However, Sabban returned and made his talent a priority when he traveled to the United Kingdom to study Television Program Directing, in which this trip granted him hope to practice a career in arts. Sabban realized, while in Britain, that art is a cultural necessity in the British society. After that he was motivated to produce a series of projects that marked his first art exhibition in the city of Colchester then he followed it with another

exhibition in the city of Glasgow. His London trip provoked the peak of his early talent and contributed to his confidence.

Sabban constantly reminds people of the big role his father, Mr. Saleh Sabban (may his soul rest in peace), played in his life as an artist, whereas he encouraged and supported him both morally and financially. He used to buy him coloring books on the condition that his hobby doesn’t conflict with his studies. Sabban often feels a lump in his heart for not being able to show his father the kind of artist his son is today, an artist among the best artists in Saudi Arabia.

Taha Sabban was born in Mekka, the world’s pilgrimage destination for all Muslims and the purest land on earth. He lived his childhood in the city practicing all its traditions and rituals, beginning with the architecture of the mosques and the domes of light, to the social life that is immersed with oriental traditions and to the grand events like the yearly pilgrimage and the commerce of different kinds of merchandise from all around the world.

Moreover, his constant moving with his family from Mekka to Jeddah, reinforced new winnings connected to the old historic city and his first love, the sea, till this day the sea imprints on his work and art. Sabban visits the sea every time he wants to be alone with the creative artist inside of him and his heart. All these supplies helped to inspire him with the old and holy city memories.

He used his inspiration when he embraced the beauty aspects that are connected to the authenticity and modernism embodied on the

walls of his paintings that ooze of architectural, symbolic, and contemporary traits that make an ancient city.

His art works in the exhibition reveal images and inspiration from his hometown, the holy city of Mekka, and the ancient city of Jeddah, that Sabban embodies its visual heritage from the public life and folklore to the topography of the sea and the adjacent boats like all the cities by the sea.

Sabban invests all the rituals that can revive the time and place memory of historic cities as if it was a motion picture where he recalls the places and life through all the values that was embraced in its living alleys; and that Sabban won’t stop visualizing through his work, which revives history and reinforces the local identity.

His compositions reveal women in its most present stages in old cities. We see her once in a musical folklore scene swaying her beautiful body; and another time we see her within a group l sewing a night together. His colors reveal that he prefers joyful colors that embrace and flatter his visual imaginations.

Sabban adores Arabian architecture using “Rawachine” and “Mashrabiyya” and that have always decorated a true authentic Arabian home.

He also adores the sea, the fishermen, and the boats; that emphasize its beauty in its noble purpose of being a source of livelihood and food.

Just like all ancient cities that live in us no matter its state of being.
