ARC 208 - Architectural Design - Spring 2024
Saba Salekfard Syracuse UniversityThe main elements explored include ideas of fragmentation of a whole, organized grid systems, and ideas of transparency and interconnectedness of both interior and exterior spaces.
This pop-up fashion school is located in the Shimokitazawa neighborhood of Tokyo, known for its vibrant “hip“ culture and various pop-up stores. This project aims to invite the community into the event space in order to create an interactive and actively engaged academic experience for Syracuse abroad students.
This building is continuously connected by a ramp sectionally and explores the relationships and visual connections that result from a staggering plan and section organization. It also features a fabric system that allows for the creation of smaller temporary spaces within a large open space and shading.

Group Project: Hanna Cheung, Dana Freedman, Selina Peh, Kerme Smith
This micro retreat is located near the shoreline of Owasco Lake in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State. Our project is designed to respond to the environmental context and climate of the Finger Lake’s Region while also providing a flexible, comfortable space for residents. Our building is slightly lifted off the ground by a pier and beam foundation system to minimize impact on the landscape.
We adapted the main material choice of our building based on the vernacular material used in many residences of the Finger Lakes region, which consists mostly of wood framing constructed from timbers fallen from nearby forests that are seasoned properly for building. As a result, we decided to ultilize a standard platform wood framing system with a sloping metal sheet roof to accommodate solar panels.
To encourage engagement with the surroundings, a pocket sliding glass door system open the living room space out to the courtyard and natural landscape for additional usable space during warmer seasons. The south and east facing courtyard also contains an extendable tarp pergola that allows residence to control the level of exposure to sunlight and precipitation while using the space.

ARC 207 - Architectural Design - Fall 2023 Professor Marcos Parga Syracuse University
Located in the Labrador Hollow Unique area of New York, this conceptual guest house seeks to redefine the the traditional concept of a bedroom, and the traditions of a guest house by extension.
The free-flowing ground level is open to the general public and encourages gathering around various hanging fire places as a warm retreat within the forest. Underground guest rooms, accessed via scattered stairwells from above, enhances the sensory experiences of the earthly scents of nature, sounds, and gentle lighting, as guests experience being within the earth and surrounded by nature. Two patios link these rooms, creating a connection to the upper floor while maintaining privacy through carefully positioned windows.
