Aylmerton Centre

Aylmerton Outdoor Education Centre, is set in an area of outstanding natural beauty in the heart of rural North Norfolk. Adjacent to the magnificent National Trust estate at Fellbrigg, but just 15 minutes from the beach with Blakeney Point and Cromer both within easy reach, they are ideally placed.

The centre was established in 1989 and has since welcomed over 50,000 children. It was set up by Alan and Veronica Marrett, who are experienced teachers and therefore knew exactly what worked well for a residential trip.

Pupils will stay at the nearby Pleasaunce, around 10 minutes away and will participate in activities held at the centre and offsite. Breakfast, dinner and evening activities will take place here.

Tuesday 11 June

Parents must drop off their child at 7am. Please park in the North Drive car park and make your way to the coach park for drop off. Your child will meet with staff in the coach park for registration. Pupils will be provided with a packed lunch and a morning snack.

Friday 14June

We aim to arrive back to school at approximately 3.30pm. Pupils should be collected from the Prep Hall where they will be dismissed. We are not anticipating for any child to catch the coach home.

Kit list

• Please ensure all belongings are labelled

• No new or expensive clothing

• Please pack your bags with your children to ensure they know how it has been organised and what they have

• Prepare for all weather!

• No electronic items – including mobile phones, digital cameras, kindles and Air Tags

• No additional food to be packed in the bags

• Please ensure the bag can fit under a bed to be safely kept in the room

The pupils should make a list of all their possessions and there is to be no electronic devices, Air Tags, mobile phones, iPods or electronic games.

Medical and dietary requirements

Staff at Aylmerton Outdoor Centre will be informed of any medical and special dietary requirements based on the information you provide on your Evolve consent form All medication (whether prescription or non-prescription) should be included on this form Please ensure this is updated or if after Monday 20 May , please contact Miss Jeffries with any updates.

First Aid kits are carried at all times. Pupils must carry their 2 epipens and inhalers with them at all times Please note that if your child forgets their spare inhaler/ EpiPen, they will not attend the residential

If your child needs any other medication (whether this be prescription or non-prescription), creams, vitamins, cough sweets or similar during the trip, it should be handed to their child’s Form teacher by Thursday 6 June .

All medication must be in the original container, labelled with the pupil’s name, the name of the medicine, the dose and frequency of administration and the expiry date. This shouldmatch up with the form.

Contact

You are warmly encouraged to provide any extra information or for any reassurance about any aspect of our trip to your child’s Form Teacher, Miss Jeffries as trip leader or to Mr Swindell as Deputy Head Pastoral.

During the trip you can achieve contact in an emergency by telephoning the Prep School Office on 020 8266 1779 between 8am and 5.30pm. Outside these hours, please leave a message on the answerphone which will be picked up by the School Office the following morning.

In serious emergency cases only please contact the centre on the following number: 01263 837759. Please do not call the centre direct, either before or after the trip, with ordinary queries as these can be answered by Miss Jeffries.

Additional Information

Foodchoices– allergiesorreligiousobservations

Before the trip, your child’s preferences will be noted, and they will not eat anything they have an allergy to or cannot eat due to religious reasons. This list will be given to the chefs at the centre, who take immense pride in making sure each child is happy and well-fed each day. Please do not send any additional food on the trip.

Bedwetting

This situation is one that we encounter every year. Please have a discrete chat with Miss Jeffries before who will arrange for a sheet to be placed on your child’s bed during a quiet moment. This will be checked each morning, when the room is empty, and will be changed without comment if they are wet.

Contactingchildrenatthecentre

No mobile telephones or electronic devices are allowed on the trip and any pupil violating this rule will risk being sent home We will provide regular updates through the padlet page and please use the contact numbers in case of an emergency

Homesickness

Our aim is for every child to have a wonderful week out on the coast. We find it is rare for a pupil to feel homesick, especially with all the activities they will be doing! We promise to call if your child does begin to feel homesick but please note, no news is good news!

Safety

Aylmerton Outdoor Centre supports all initiatives that improve standards ofsafety in outdoor activities. They have received the Learning outside the Classroom –Quality Badge in September 2022. All adventure equipment is provided. It is modern, has BSI and EN standard if appropriate, and is carefully maintained.

Staff, regardless of qualification, are regularly trained,reviewed and appraised. Thereisappropriatelightingaroundthemain hub of the centre during the night and the gates are locked for security.Bedroom and building doors all have locks and windows are fitted with a restrictor.

Aylmerton Outdoor Centre has a modern automatic fire detection system and guests are given instructions about fire evacuation procedures upon arrival.

Insurance

The school provides its own comprehensive insurance for all educational visits.

Pupilsshouldalso take great care withall the centre’sfacilities.The costof breakages/damages will be passed on to those concerned.
