Habs Weekly Junior School Edition Friday 2 February Spring Term

Head of Junior School’s message Over the last two weeks, girls from Year 3 to Year 6 have had the opportunity, along with the Boys’ Prep, to watch live theatre productions in the West End. Years 3 and 4 saw ‘The Lion King’ at the Lyceum Theatre. The girls were captivated by the musical performances and stunning costumes, which made for a magical experience.

Years 5 and 6 enjoyed ‘Wicked’ at the Apollo theatre, based on The Wizard of Oz. The vivid colours and intricate details of the stage design evoked a sense of wonder as the girls were transported to the magical land of Oz. The children were filled with laughter at the humour and wit of the characters, while moments of heartbreak touched the soul.

Inspired by these phenomenal West End productions, our students are now very much looking forwards to showing off their own performing talents this term: Year 4 Play ‘Peter Pan’ on Wednesday 7 and Thursday 8 February at 2pm Year 3 to Year 6 Junior Performing Arts Evening on Tuesday 19 March at 7pm Wishing you a wonderful weekend,

Mrs Claire Brown Head of Junior School

If you would like your child to bring work home because you are unable to attend, please contact their class teacher.

These will take place between 8.30am and 9am, straight after Family Friday class-based time; these will consist of a short talk followed by an opportunity to ask related questions. RAINBOW TO YEAR 6 INFORMATION

Inside Out Day

NEW

WEDNESDAY 7 FEBRUARY Inside Out Day calls for children and adults alike to wear an item of clothing ‘Inside Out’ as a way of making us all stop and think about how someone may look fine on the outside but inside, they may be feeling sad or worried. It is a day to remind us to always be kind and think of others as no one knows how someone else may be feeling. This will take place during Children’s Mental Health Week on Wednesday 7 February. We are asking all pupils to wear a piece of school uniform inside out. Pupils will also take part in associated discussions in their classes and during an assembly. These discussions may prompt questions and discussions at home. We would encourage you to engage in these conversations, helping your child to acknowledge and understand their own feelings and those of others. If you would like further ideas and resources the Place2Be website offers a number of helpful activities and suggestions. As ever, should any discussions raise any issues that you wish to share with the school, please do not hesitate to contact your daughter’s class teacher or Ms Elliott, Acting Assistant Head Pastoral.

Art Prefect Competition

DEADLINE – MONDAY 26 FEBRUARY This competition is open to all year groups on the theme of mythical creatures, please click here for more information. The winners’ work will be displayed in the Junior School and featured in Habs Weekly.

Year 1 to Year 6 Performing Arts Spotlight

NEW

FRIDAY 8 MARCH We are excited to hold our next Performing Arts Spotlight on Friday 8 March at 3.45pm in The Sime Hall. This informal showcase is an opportunity for girls from Year 1 to Year 6 to perform a piece of music, dance or drama to an audience of family members. There is no minimum standard required to perform, but we do request that pieces are ‘performance ready’. In order to keep the running time to approximately one hour, places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Please submit your child participation using this form, which will open at 8pm on Sunday 4 February and close at 8pm on Tuesday 6 February. Please ensure that all fields are completed, especially the piece duration field, as this will allow us to plan the programme accordingly. Please also note that you must be able to attend the performance to submit your daughter, as these events do not form part of our wraparound provision. You will be informed if your child is performing by Friday 9 February – if you do not hear from us, then your daughter will not be performing this time. Priority will be given to girls who were submitted for last term’s Performing Arts Spotlight but who did not perform due to the event being oversubscribed. If your daughter was submitted last term but did not perform, then please still submit the form by the deadline, so we have all submissions in one place. Next priority will be given to new performers who have not yet performed in a Performing Arts Spotlight. We cannot accept submissions via email.

YEAR 6 INFORMATION

Year 6 Production – Planned Weekend Rehearsal Sunday 9 June

NEW

IMPORTANT INFORMATION We will be announcing details of this year's Year 6 production later this term. In the meantime, in order to decide on the timings of the planned rehearsal on Sunday 9 June, we would ask parents to complete this form to indicate their daughter's availability by 9am on Friday 2 February. A Sunday rehearsal is a regular feature of the Year 6 production process. As the rehearsals are so intensive and condensed into a short space of time, this extra day provides invaluable time to build on the progress made during the initial week of rehearsals, and sets the cast up for production week without losing momentum over the weekend. As such, it is expected that as many girls as possible attend in order to make the most of the time spent as an ensemble.
