Habs Weekly Junior School edition Friday 1 December Autumn Term

Head of Junior School’s message It was lovely to see so many parents at our St Catherine’s Day assembly last Friday. The day was action packed with all girls spending time with their peers from their houses. The girls took part in an act of service by making cards for a local business called ‘Cards for Bravery’; their aim is to brighten the days of hospitalised and seriously ill children through positive, handmade cards. Pupils also took part in a stacking cup challenge and made their own gingerbread houses. Everyone enjoyed a show from ‘Electric Umbrella’, which is a charity that celebrates diversity through amazing live, interactive music experiences. A special thank you to our Charity Leaders, Mrs Kennedy and Mrs Miller, for organising all the events and making wonderful memories for all the girls.

Head of Junior School’s message continued…

There was a wonderful start to the festive season this morning with our Merry Music concert. The performances were superb, and the girls gave us a real Christmas treat. Thank you to all the visiting music teachers, Ms Rockley and Mr Nichols for supporting the girls to put on such a fantastic concert.

Our Santa Dash this morning was very exciting, and it was wonderful to see the whole Junior School community taking part together, from the youngest Rainbows to the oldest Year 6s. Seeing the girls cheering each other on was a very special moment.

At the end of term, we will be saying goodbye to Mrs Chopra and Mrs Ede. We will miss Mrs Chopra, her beaming smile and how she puts the girls first. We will also miss Mrs Ede’s passion to ensure the girls receive the best experiences at school through our Academic Enrichment and ACE programme and her love of football.

Mrs Chopra and Mrs Ede are valued members of the Habs community and we wish them both great success in the future; they will both be sorely missed.

IMPORTANT REMINDER Despite the very cold weather, there are some pupils coming to school without a school coat.

All pupils will be outside before school and for breaktimes and lunchtimes. Please ensure that your daughter wears her coat to school every day.

Snacks REMINDER Please kindly remember that, in line with government guidance, grapes or olives should be cut in half and cherries should be de-stoned if these foods are brought in for snacks. A full list of permitted breaktime snacks can be found in the Parent Information Booklet. All pupils were also reminded of the permitted snacks in assembly today.

Car Park IMPORTANT REMINDER The new visitors’ car park continues to flow well and allow for the safe drop off and collection of students. There have been some incidents where the estates team, who help to direct traffic an keep all users safe, have been spoken to in an unkind and sometimes aggressive manner. Please ensure that all interactions with these valuable members of our school community are always polite and respectful.

This term Family Fridays will take place in the classrooms; there will be opportunities to see the wider school with your daughter in the Spring and Summer terms.

On arrival at school, please use the car park, as opposed to the drop off lanes, and walk to the Junior School. The middle doors will be open from 8am and from there you will head to your child’s classroom, where you will sign in. If you have more than one child involved in the event, older siblings will collect their work and meet you in the classroom of the younger sibling.

Should you be unable to join your child, they will have the opportunity to bring home some of the work to share with you the evening before. If you would like your child to bring work home because you are unable to attend, please contact their class teacher.

Eco Council’s Cracking Idea

FRIDAY 8 DECEMBER Eco Council have had a cracker of an idea! At Habs, we are committed to fostering a sense of responsibility towards the environment and encouraging sustainable practices. This holiday season, we are inviting everyone in the Habs community to think outside the box, or should we say, outside the cracker! Although Crackers are a popular Christmas tradition, they often come with small plastic toys and other items that are thrown away soon after the fun is over. To avoid this, the Eco Prefects have met with our Dining Room team about not having crackers this year to reduce waste and show our commitment to sustainability.

Instead of wearing paper crowns from crackers at the school Christmas lunch this year, everyone is invited to reuse or recycle Christmas hats on Friday 8 December, when we have Christmas lunch in school. If children would like to wear a hat for lunch that day, they can choose to: 1.

All KS2 girls attended an information session showcasing the collaborative clubs run by the external providers on Wednesday 29 November at lunch time in the Boys’ School.

During this session, they had a chance to speak to not only the adults leading the sessions, but also some children who have participated in the activities this term.

Residential Trips 2024 Years 3 to 6 In the Summer Term, girls in Years 3 to 6 will have the opportunity to take part in overnight residential experiences. Each of these will offer unique enrichment opportunities for the girls to develop skills, engage with new activities and foster relationships with their peers outside of their everyday learning environment and, for the Upper Phase, away from our school setting.

Letters giving more specific details of costs, how to give consent and payment dates for each trip will be shared with parents via Evolve by Wednesday 14 December. In the Spring Term, comprehensive trip brochures will be shared in Habs Weekly and there will be an opportunity to ask questions both electronically and in person.

Although we are now through the majority of our rehearsals, it would be much appreciated if you could continue to support your daughters at home with practising their spoken lines. They should also continue to listen to the songs via this link.

COSTUME We have made some additional costume requests of some girls this week, which have been communicated via class teachers. Please ensure these come in on Monday 4 December.

TICKETS You are warmly invited to attend a performance on Wednesday 6 December or Thursday 7 December. As space is limited in our Performance Space, tickets are limited to two per child.

These can be booked together for one performance or as single tickets for each performance.

Year 3 Junior School Carol Service TUESDAY 12 DECEMBER AT 1.45PM ALDENHAM SCHOOL CHAPEL This year’s Junior School Carol Service, for Years 3 to Year 6, will take place at Aldenham School Chapel. The service will begin at 1.45pm and run until 2.45pm/3pm. Through the medium of carols, choral and instrumental performances, poetry and prose readings, the service will tell the story of Christmas as a significant festival. It will be inclusive and informative for everyone of all faiths, and those of none.

The pupils will be transported to Aldenham School, after lunch, on the day of the service. We would ask that your daughter only comes to school with her coat on this day; water and other resources will be provided in school. At the end of the service, you are welcome to collect your daughter from outside the chapel, where they will be waiting with their class teacher and will be ticked off a class list and dismissed to you. Alternatively, pupils can return to school by coach with staff. It is imperative that all parents confirm their daughter's going home arrangements via this form by noon on Monday 4 December.

After school clubs will not be running on this day, however After School Care and the coach service will be running as normal. Please note that parking facilities at Aldenham School are restricted and that car sharing is strongly advised.

There will be two rehearsals at Aldenham School Chapel: one on Friday 8 December for readers, junior choir, senior choir, choristers and brass ensemble, and one on Monday 11 December for all KS2 pupils. Children will return to school so that normal going home arrangements can apply on both of these days.

Pupils in the brass ensemble will need their instruments and music for both rehearsals and the carol service.

The pupils’ contribution to the service will be very important: singing, playing instruments and offering/citing readings. We would be delighted, therefore, if some of their family and friends are also able join us. We can allocate two tickets per family but as ever, we would be grateful if preschool children are not brought to the Carol Service. Tickets for the Carol Service can be booked online via this link .

The Box Office will be open from Friday 8 December at 9pm until Tuesday 12 December at 8am.

Last Day of Term for KS2 WEDNESDAY 13 DECEMBER On the last day of term, Wednesday 13 December, there will be no After School Care and only one coach service running at 4.15pm. All pupils in Years 3-6 will need to be collected at 4pm or catch the 4.15pm coach.

The Lion King Theatre Trip

Year 5 Junior School Carol Service TUESDAY 12 DECEMBER AT 1.45PM ALDENHAM SCHOOL CHAPEL This year’s Junior School Carol Service, for Years 3 to Year 6, will take place at Aldenham School Chapel. The service will begin at 1.45pm and run until 2.45pm/3pm. Through the medium of carols, choral and instrumental performances, poetry and prose readings, the service will tell the story of Christmas as a significant festival. It will be inclusive and informative for everyone of all faiths, and those of none.

The pupils will be transported to Aldenham School, after lunch, on the day of the service.
