Friday 29 September
AutumnTerm
Dear Parents and Guardians, I hope this message finds you well.
Earlier this week I had the fantastic opportunity to attend the IAPS Headteachers Conference in Liverpool and wanted to share the inspiring insights I gained from one of the keynote speakers, Ben Edmonds – Ex-Principle Designer for Dyson, and now designer, inventor, entrepreneur and innovator whose mission is to create as many young innovators and inventors of the future as he can through his work with students and educators. His words truly resonated with me, and I believe they hold great significance for us as educators and you as parents.
Ben's message emphasized the beauty of the iterative process, the power of changing ideas, and the art of adapting plans. He highlighted the importance of incremental change and innovation, which reminded me of Austin’s Butterfly. Austin was a Grade 1 student in the US, who through a process of evaluation, feedback, editing, progressed his scientific sketch of a butterfly from his first draft (see below) to his final draft (see below). Our student’s journey through education is all about evolving, learning, and embracing change.
This is also a valuable reminder to us all, that in many ways, the journey our children are on is more important than the destination. The experiences they accumulate, the knowledge they gain, and the character they develop at the Prep School will shape their future. As we continue to support and encourage them on this remarkable voyage, we must ensure they are in a place that values innovation, adaptability, and personal growth.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend.
