Fundraising Success Stories and Tips Many schools have walked the same path towards funding their dream playgrounds. Find out what worked for them, and how it can work for you too!

“It took 10 days to raise $14,000” Irene Melandis, Whiteside Elementary

“The scratch card program proved to me that sometimes you just have to go for it. Did we think we would raise $14,000? No we didn’t, so we were extremely happy with our results. My advice would be to try to create as much excitement as you can about the playground...I think it’s also important to have prizes as an incentive. We had so many eager students who completed 2 booklets and one kindergarten student who completed 3 booklets because they wanted more entries for the prizes. In addition to the three prizes, we also had a pizza for the primary and intermediate classes with the most money raised. In order to encourage students to return their booklets (completed or not), we entered them in a draw for the gift bags.” - Irene Melandis, Whiteside Elementary

“If you are going to have any type of auction, set up a website so that people can browse through the available items prior to the event.”

“Our Walk-a-Thon is a really successful event that raises thousands of dollars and supports our mandate of promoting healthy active living.”

- Jacqui Stuart, Braemar Elementary

- Dale Owen, Gilmore Community School

“When we started our new playground process, our target price tag was set at $40,000. The playground concept presented by Habitat was considerably more, at $75,000. Although it seemed a daunting amount of money to raise, Habitat designed the best possible playground to fit the space, and we went ahead and presented it to the community. I believe that because the playground looked “grand”, everyone involved felt a great sense of excitement. Paradoxically, it may have been easier to raise $75,000 for something really great, than it would have been to raise $40,000 for something average. Therefore, my advice is to dream big!” - Barbara Meihuizen, Hastings Elementary habitat-systems.com | 1.866.422.4828 | info@habitat-systems.com
