he Government and the People’s Progressive Party/ Civic (PPP/C) on Tuesday fired off scathing statements against the main opposition A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) for its recommendation that the country quit the sugar industry and pursue ethanol production. At a news conference on Tuesday, APNU Executive Member Joseph Harmon said the sugar industry was dying and the ruling administration was responsible for its decline. He said the problems facing the sugar sector are all connected to the poor management of it. Harmon insisted that the government’s turnaround plan was not working, as he made references to articles written by University of Guyana (UG) Professor Clive Thomas.
