Young Warriors CC gets help from US-based Guyanese The executives and members of the Young Warriors Cricket Club are working feverishly to return the club to its former glory after it was recently resuscitated. The Cumberland, East Canje-based cricket club secured three boxes of cricket balls from Yasin Mohamed of New York and formerly of Canefield Settlement, East Canje, Berbice. Former national player and coach, Hubern Evans, was instrumental in securing the balls. Mohamed said that he is happy to give back to cricket in the East Canje area. He added that with the recent closure of the sugar estate in the area, he knows that the community needs help and he is confident that sport is a way out of poverty. He made special mention of new West Indies batting star Shimron Hetmyer and advised the young boys and girls in the area to follow his footsteps. He represented The Rose Hall Community Centre Cricket Club in his playing days and rubbed shoulders with a number of former players from the Young Warriors CC. He alluded to the fact that the team participated in first division cricket competition since its resuscitation, which was organized by the Berbice Cricket Board. He pointed out that they
played unbeaten until they lost to power house Rose Hall Town in the final. Evans also mentioned that the club has played unbeaten so far in the NBS Second Division Cricket Competition and topped their group in the preliminary round.
