Hundreds went through routines of harmonizing, fighting nerves and waiting hours for a chance to have their voice heard Thursday at the show’s open auditions in Duluth. From across the South to New York, contestants between the ages of 15 and 28 arrived at the Infinite Energy
Arena to chase their dreams of music super-stardom. Early in the auditions, Stephanie Cochran proudly held a bright yellow sign saying “Your Next American Idol T.J. Cochran” as her husband waited patiently for his turn to sing. “We were high school sweethearts and have been
together for 10 years and married for the past three,” Stephanie Cochran said. “This is the first time he’s tried out for ‘American Idol,’ but we’ve watched it since we were kids.” The couple, who are from Rome, arrived for the open audition at 6:30 a.m. Stephanie Cochran said they were inspired to come audition after T.J. Cochran’s music video for his song “Rome, Ga” picked up more than 70,000 views on Facebook
