A Lilburn woman has been accused of checking the damage to her minivan and driving off after hitting Amanda a 15-year-old boy on his Simpson bike in Snellville last week. Amanda Simpson, the jail log. 29, turned herself in to Simpson is accused of Gwinnett County jail on hitting Myles Bonn, 15,

as he was riding his bike west on Dogwood Road on his way home from school Oct. 6. Some of his friends, including Matthew Webb and Samuel Mauldin, saw him pass them as they walked home from school together. “He rides his bike to and from school every day,” Mauldin said. “It’s a pretty normal thing.”

That Friday, Bonn was riding his bike on the road to avoid the crowd of teenagers on the sidewalk. Once he biked past the crowd, Bonn raised his left arm to signal to the cars behind him that he was about to cross the doubleyellow line in order to pass back onto the sidewalk. But the 2013 Dodge Journey minivan behind

Bonn swerved over the double-yellow line at the same time as Bonn. Simpson was attempting to pass the teenager, according to warrants. “Then she clipped the back tire of his bike,” Webb said. Webb said he watched Bonn’s bike come up onto the minivan’s hood. Webb, Mauldin and the other

teenagers sprinted to the scene to make sure Bonn was OK. That’s when Webb said he saw the minivan pull into a driveway down the street. A woman got out. “I thought she was going to come and say something to (Bonn),” Webb said. Witnesses told police

Fourth-grader Ethan Surprenant usually takes the bus to Roberts Elementary School, but Wednesday he did something a little bit different. “I walked up the hill to my school,” the 9-year-old said. “My favorite part was climbing up the last big hill.” Surprenant was one of more than 100 kids who skipped the bus or the carpool to hike up the path beside the elementary school in Suwanee as part of Roberts Elementary School’s Walk To School Day Wednesday morning. “You know, this is the biggest one we’ve had,” said Principal Dion Jones, watching as a
