Gwinnett County police discovered what they believe may be a homicide after being called to the Villas Del Camino Apartments for a medical problem in Norcross on Friday night. According to police spokesman J. D. Albright, officers from the Westside precinct were called to the apartment complex, located at 1355 Graves Road, at 6:30 p.m. Friday for an “unknown medical problem.” When they arrived at the scene, officers discovered a Hispanic man, later identified as Geremias Barrios Diaz, 52, whom Albright said had signs of blunt force trauma. Albright said late Saturday, however, that investigators have not yet determined what caused Diaz’s death. Police said Diaz’s body was found in the kitchen of his apartment by one of his roommates, who called police. Due to observations made at the scene by the responding officers, the Gwinnett County homicide unit and the crime scene unit were called in, Albright said. “The roommate reported to police that a third roommate, Heraclios Solis-Ortiz, 56, may have been having an ongoing dispute with the victim,” Albright said Saturday. “At the time police arrived, all of Solis-Ortiz’s belongings had already been removed from the residence.” Police are considering Solis-Ortiz as a person of interest in Diaz’s death, but they have not taken out any warrants for his arrest. Investigators are looking for SolisOrtiz, who is described as being 5 feet, 7 inches tall with a muscular build, black hair and green eyes. They believe he may be near where the incident occurred, Albright said. Police are asking anyone with information about the case to contact GCPD detectives at 770-513-5300. To remain anonymous, tipsters should contact Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS (8477) or visit www.crimestoppersatlanta.org. Crime Stoppers tipsters can receive up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case. The case number is 18-108860.
