BY CURT YEOMANS

Gwinnett County Democrats had already planned for a while to meet for their monthly breakfast at Sweet Baby Jane’s Home Cooking in Duluth on Saturday morning, but a strong showing on Election Day turned it into a

celebratory feast. One Democratic elected official after another took their turn at the mic to lead the party in a pat on the back. The gathering drew a standing-room-only crowd of at least 100 party faithful, many of whom stood when party Chairman Gabe Okoye asked for a showing of how many

Two shot and killed outside Duluth bar BY ISABEL HUGHES The co-owner of a Duluth bar was one of two men killed in a shooting early Saturday morning. Gwinnett police responded around 2:30 a.m. to a report of shots fired outside Prime Bar and Grill, which is located at 1960 Day Drive in unincorporated Duluth, according to Gwinnett County Police Department Detective Sam Flynn. When officers arrived, they found the men — 47-year-old James Kim and 26-year-old Malik Jett, who co-owns the bar — with gunshot wounds. “It appears that the shooting was part of an altercation at the bar and occurred on the sidewalk and in the parking lot outside,” Flynn said. “At this time, detectives believe Kim was not involved in the altercation at the bar and was caught in the crossfire. It is unclear at this time to what extent Jett was involved in the altercation.” Detectives are actively working to develop leads on the suspect or suspects involved and encourage the public to come forward with information related to the incident. Police said this is not the first time they have responded to incidents at the bar located in the Monarch strip mall. Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives at 770-513-5300. To remain anonymous, tipsters can contact Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS (8477) or crimestoppersatlanta.org. Tipsters can receive up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment in the case by referencing case number 18-104435.

Norcross resident Grady Thacker was a 22-year-old Army sergeant when he was killed on April 13, 1968, in the Quang Tin province of Vietnam. He is one of many military service members, including 12 Gwinnett County residents, who died in the Vietnam War and whose names are engraved on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington,

D.C. The group behind the wall, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, is hoping someone, potentially a relative, can now help put a face with Thacker’s name. It’s part of a digital online project called The Wall of Faces, which the organization hopes will give younger generations a new way to understand the wall’s significance. “We found that people visit the (memorial) and most of (the) See THACKER, Page 5A
