One deputy ran toward the car with a drawn weapon as he radioed for assistance and described the car to other law enforcement officers. The driver of the Buick looked at the deputy and drove off, heading south on Ga. 365.” Booth said that both deputies and troopers attempted to stop Harbour, but he sped off, later shooting himself in
the head. The victims, a 54-yearold Gainesville man who suffered a gunshot wound to his hip, and a 73-yearold Demorest resident who was shot in his lower left leg, were transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville in stable condition with nonlife threatening injuries. The third victim, a 49-year-old local woman, suffered a “slight injury” from a shattered windshield,

At age 5, Laura Jimenez left her home country of Columbia behind to come to the United States with her mother. Thirteen years later, she’s using what she experienced as a child to help Venezuelan refugee students adjust to life away from their home country. As a result of her work, Jimenez was recently honored with a Caring Award along with five other students from Gwinnett County Public Schools. Joining Jimenez as honorees were Elsie Elizabeth Rankin from Berkeley Lake Elementary School, Abigail Onodipe from Puckett’s Mill Elementary School, Jairus Griffin from Berkmar Middle School, Alex Michael Kay from Crews Middle School and Gensen Maurize Surpris from Shiloh High School They received Caring Awards on April 24 from the school district for their volunteer work. As part of her school’s curriculum at Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology, which requires students to complete an internship, Jimenez asked to fulfill her academic requirement at See JIMENEZ, Page 5A
