Discovery students, staff need TB testing BY ISABEL HUGHES isabel.hughes@gwinnettdailypost.com
Though no additional cases of tuberculosis have been identified since a Discovery High School student was diagnosed with the bacterial disease several weeks ago, all students and staff at the school will now be required to undergo TB testing, Discovery’s principal told parents Wednesday. In a letter to parents, Principal Marci Sledge said Gwinnett County Health Department and state health officials “have determined, out of an abundance of caution, that the remainder of our students and staff need to be tested” after spring break. Sledge told parents on March 1 that the Gwinnett County Health Department had contacted the school, saying a student was diagnosed with TB, the Daily Post previously reported. Gwinnett economic forecaster warns a mild recession is possible by end of 2020 BY CURT YEOMANS
curt.yeomans @gwinnettdailypost.com
Trouble in the Chinese and European economies could lead to a new recession by the end of 2020, Gwinnett County’s economic forecaster told county leaders on Thursday. University of Georgia economist Jeffrey Dorfman gave Gwinnett commissioners and department heads an economic update at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia in Athens in connection with their strategic planning retreat
at UGA. He believes there is a chance for another economic downturn on the horizon, although not as severe as the Great Recession of a decade ago. “It’s probably about 50-50 that we have a recession in the second half of 2019 or sometime in 2020,” Dorfman said. He further discussed the prediction with the Daily Post after his presentation. Talk about a possible recession’s impact on Gwinnett made up a portion of Dorfman’s economic presentation,

Indiana chancellor is finalist for presidency BY ISABEL HUGHES isabel.hughes@gwinnettdailypost.com
Georgia Gwinnett College has named an Indiana University chancellor as the sole finalist in the college’s presidential search, which began following the September announcement that former President Stas Preczewski would be leaving the school. On Thursday, GGC Board of Regents Chairman Don Waters and University System of Georgia Jann Luciana Chancellor Steve Wrigley Joseph announced Jann Luciana Joseph as the college’s next president, pending official action “at a future board meeting.” Georgia law requires that university boards wait a minimum of five business days after the official naming of a presidential finalist before officially voting him or her into the position. “(GGC) requires a dynamic, experienced See FINALIST, Page 6A
