There were sharks all over the Crews Middle School media center on Tuesday afternoon. Well, sort of. The Lawrenceville-based middle school hosted local business owners, residents and entrepreneurs for its own version of the popular TV show “Shark Tank.” For the past two months, eighth-grade students in Rod Hames’ business education class were tasked with creating a business, product and pitch to present to potential investors. “We wanted to get kids out of the textbook and actually performing and doing what the textbook said to do,” Hames said. “We learn a lot when we say or hear things. But when you do something it’s a different level of learning. That’s what today was about.”

In an effort to combat the county, state and country’s opioid and drug crisis, Eastside Medical Center, in partnership with Navigate Lifeline Gwinnett, recently launched a peer recovery program in the hospital’s main and south campus emergency rooms.
