Officials: Stay off Chattahoochee High water levels, releases make river treacherous BY TREVOR MCNABOE AND ISABEL HUGHES trevor.mcnaboe @gwinnettdailypost.com isabel.hughes @gwinnettdailypost.com

Though Georgia officials always urge caution on the Chattahoochee River, they are now recommend-

ing residents stay off the waterway for the time being due to increasing Lake Lanier levels, which means constant Buford Dam water releases. On Wednesday, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials warned residents that heavy rains — most re-

cently due to Tropical Storm Alberto — have raised the water level of Lake Lanier past its full pool of elevation of 1,071 feet, which necessitates that water is released from Buford Dam 24 hours per day, making for dangerous conditions on the Chattahoochee, where

U2’s concert at the Infinite Energy Arena this week broke a new record — one Justin Timberlake set just 16 days prior. With more than 12,000 people in attendance, the U2 show set the record for the highest grossing single event in the arena’s history, beating the previous record set by Timberlake on May 11 — and one held before that by Paul McCartney, according to arena officials. “We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to host a renowned band like U2,” said

Joey Dennis, Infinite Energy Center’s general manager. “It was an unbelievable show which marked a historic mo-

ment for both the venue and for the community.” U2 and Timberlake are no strangers at the top of the

Gwinnett County Public Schools officials have uncovered a cheating scandal at Dacula High School in which nearly 80 students allegedly had the answers to final exams. Officials said the cheating stems from the answers to countywide final exams being posted on social media during the last week of school. The tests in question were for 10th-grade language arts, world history and chemistry classes, officials said. No seniors were involved in the cheating and it did not affect graduation. “School leaders became aware of the social media postings and were able to actively review exams for potential cheating,” the school system said in a statement. Officals said the school addressed the issue with students, providing them with appropriate disciplinary consequences. No further information was made available.
