Pak tapped for post as U.S. attorney BY CURT YEOMANS curt.yeomans@gwinnettdailypost.com
A Gwinnett resident who is a former assistant federal prosecutor and, until recently, a state legislator, is President Donald Trump’s pick for the new U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Georgia. Trump announced on Friday that he was nominating BJay Pak to the position. Pak represented Lilburn in the Georgia House of Representatives from 2011 until last year, when he announced he would not seek another term in the General Assembly. Pak was one of six BJay Pak U.S. attorney nominees from across the country who were announced by the White House. “The United States Attorney serves as the chief Federal law enforcement officer within his or her Federal judicial district,” the White House said in a statement. “These six candidates share the President’s vision for ‘Making America Safe Again.’” Pak deferred comment about his nomination to officials at the U.S. Department of Justice on Friday night. He comes into the job with experience in both the prosecutorial and policy arenas, though. The White House said Pak was an assistant U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Georgia from 2002 to 2008, handling cases involving drug trafficking, money laundering, intellectual property and white collar crimes. Adrian Flores-Alvardo walked into the Shoe Carnival on Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road in Lawrenceville with one thing on his mind. “I want light-up shoes,” said the 6-year-old, who would be starting first grade in just a few weeks. Flores-Alvardo’s mother, Jessica Alvardo, wasn’t so sure that would be the best “back-toschool” purchase for her son. “I feel like that’s a huge distraction,” she said. “He’s also been asking for these ones with roller skates on them. I was like, ‘Oh, no dude.’ So, I’ll Kalesa Porter talks to Allyiah about her shoes as Kemorhia really have to help him.” It’s a normal discussion for tries on a pair during Saturday’s Cops and Kids-Back to School a mom and her son to have Event at Shoe Carnival in Lawrenceville.
