Arguing for bipartisan efforts while trumpeting the roaring stock market and low unemployment, Trump struck a unifying tone after a year of stoking divisions on race, politics and gender. “Tonight, I call upon all of us to set aside our differences, to seek out common ground and to summon the unity we need

to deliver for the people we were elected to serve,” Trump said. “We have gone forward with a clear vision and a righteous mission — to make America great again for all Americans,” he said. In his remarks, Trump heralded the large package of tax cuts he signed into law last year. He proclaimed that a regula-

tory rollback has allowed industries to thrive. And he insisted that his administration has “sought to restore the bonds of trust between our citizens and their government.” “This, in fact, is our New American Moment. There has never been a better time to start living the American dream,” Trump said. “Americans

love their country. And they deserve a government that shows them the same love and loyalty in return.” At the same time, Trump did not avoid oblique references to the divisive topics that have salted his first year in office, including the controversy over football players kneeling during the national anthem.

Ten years ago, Lawrenceville resident Jason Moss made what some people might at first consider an unconventional leap, going from a career in software sales to founding a networking organization for manufacturers in Georgia. It was early 2008, and Moss, in his role as a software salesman who dealt with manufacturers, saw problems with communication in the industry. Those problems are why he ultimately decided he needed to make the leap from a sales job to becoming a CEO of what would become the Georgia Manufacturing Alliance. “As I was dealing with my manufacturers in sales, I saw that there was really a big need for a place for manufacturers to learn from each other,” Moss said. “What I saw was that there are industry associations that do really, really well — professional organizations like the Society of Manufacturing Engineers or the Institute of Packing Professionals — but those are really focused on a single activity inside of a manufacturing group. “But there was nothing really that connected all of the parts of manufacturers together.” The alliance is set to celebrate its 10th birthday Thursday during a gathering at the 57th
