Husband of Auburn day care owner charged Man confessed to molesting six kids, police say By Tyler Estep

tyler.estep @gwinnettdailypost.com

The husband of a local day care owner has reportedly confessed to molesting six children under the couple’s care — and more victims could be coming

forward. Richard Paltrineri, 64, was arrested last week and charged with nine felonies, including various counts of child molestation, aggravated child molestation, aggravated sodomy and sexual battery against a child under 16. The

charges were filed shortly after a child who attended SusanSilly Expressions Pre-School Program — the day care that Paltrineri’s wife, Susan, ran out of their home on Auburn’s Elliots Lane — “made a disclosure” about allegedly being molested.

As of Thursday, a total of six alleged victims of Paltrineri’s abuse had been identified, Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith said. Their ages ranged from 2 to 5 years old, and both boys and girls are included among them. Four of the alleged vic-

tims were currently under the Paltrineris’ care, Smith said, and Richard Richard Paltrineri Paltrineri has confessed to molesting all six known victims. “We brought him in and he confessed pretty

Public safety workers honored at Gwinnett Chamber Valor Awards

DULUTH — The Gwinnett Chamber’s Valor Awards is unlike most banquets. The stories told during the 2015 ceremony, held Thursday in Duluth, were grim tales of blood, pain, drug overdoses and fatal confrontations. But if you ask those involved in the event, the stories are examples of the bravery and honor of the public safety workers who protect Gwinnett County everyday. Opening the ceremony, Dan Kaufman, president and CEO of the chamber, said society often seems to care more for “those who throw a football or hit a baseball or bounce a basketball” than “those who devote their very lives to our protection and well being.” That wasn’t the case with the hundreds of members of society who turned out to the Gwinnett Center on Thursday. The crowd, including more than 200 public safety

workers and many community leaders, rose time and time again to applaud the winners and nominees of the eight awards given. Among the most praised was Gwinnett County Police Department officer Carlos Floyd, who received the highest honor of the day, the Gold Medal of Valor. Floyd, a trim, middleaged patrolman, responded

Jimmy Carter Blvd. bridge closing tonight Work on diverging diamond to be done by 5 a.m. Monday By Curt Yeomans curt.yeomans@gwinnettdailypost.com

NORCROSS — Drivers will lose access to a major interstate overpass in Norcross this weekend. They shouldn’t fear too much, however. The closure will only last a couple of days. The Gwinnett county Department of Transportation will close the Jimmy Carter Boulevard Bridge over Interstate 85 tonight so it can be converted to a diverging diamond interchange. The closure is expected to last through Monday at 5 a.m. County transportation director Alan Chapman said the bridge’s configuration is being changed to improve the flow of traffic over the interstate. “The reason we’re doing the diverging diamond is because it helps improve the flow of traffic by allowing MORE INSIDE left turns to Map of detour routes.............8A free flow on to the interstate,” Chapman said. The closure will begin at 9 p.m., but Chapman and construction manager Casey Graham said it will be a prolonged process. the inner lanes will be closed first and it will gradually move outwards. “It’ll be similar to what we did on Pleasant Hill when we converted that bridge to a diverging diamond,” Chapman said. “It will begin around 9 p.m. and we’ll close the lanes off one at a time.” Graham said it took about two hours to close the lanes for the Pleasant Hill changeover, so the Jimmy Carter Boulevard bridge is expected to be completely shut down by 11 p.m. While the bridge is closed, drivers will have to take an alternate route to get across Interstate 85. The detour will have drivers taking either Singleton Road or Brook Hollow Parkway to Indian Trail, where they can cross the interstate. Pedestrian traffic will be able to cross over at Center Way between Goshen Springs Road and Oakbrook Parkway. See DIAMOND, Page 8A
