News headlines have introduced the community to a former Duluth resident whose bullet-riddled body was found at the end of a Snellville-area road Wednesday. But for those who knew him, Jabari Pettway, 23, was anything but a name-

they’re still reeling from the news. Gwinnett police identified his body Thursday, a day after the discovery on Lenora Road near Lenora Church Road at about 8:43 a.m. Pettway’s death was ruled a homicide shortly after, but detectives are still trying to determine the motive, spokesman Cpl. time with relatives. “Did he suffer? Was there a struggle?” his mother said. “If he was robbed, I’m sure he looked (the suspect) in the eye … and he would’ve said, ‘Just take everything I have.’” A worker discovered Pettway’s body lying face up in a grassy shoulder in front of a private gated driveway to a pasture. “The worker tried to get

the male’s attention, but he did not respond,” spokeswoman Cpl. Michele Pihera said. When Gwinnett fire officials arrived, they pronounced Pettway dead. The area is usually quiet but is a hangout for passersby to engage in illegal activity, said a neighbor who has lived farther down
