So far, Gwinnett County Public Schools officials are keeping their public statements on the matter measured. “Schools are looking

actively into all reported incidents,” district spokeswoman Sloan Roach said. The threats have all come in the wake of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida, which resulted in the deaths of 17 people. That incident has caused educators across the country to be on heightened alert about

possible threats to their own schools. The largest number of reports about threats in Gwinnett emerged Tuesday when officials at Peachtree Ridge, Discovery and Grayson high schools sent letters to parents detailing investigations that were made into reported threats. Some of the strongest

After months and even years of waiting, Gwinnett County business leaders on Tuesday got their first look at the Avalonlike mixed-use development that will be built at the Infinite Energy Center. North American Properties revealed details of their plans for the development, called Revel, during a Partnership Gwinnett Economic Development Breakfast at the center. Among the plans are a movie theater, residential units, a hotel, office space and retail such as a fitness center, a food hall and a beverage store — a concept the developer described as “downtown Gwinnett.” A major piece of the presentation was the unveiling of a site plan and an artist’s rendering which shows a concept Above, North American Properties’ similar to North American’s Mark Toro discusses plans for the Avalon development in AlRevel development that will be built pharetta, replicating that site’s at the Infinite Energy Center during a scale, scope and street layout. PEACHTREE CORNERS

Kemp brings governor bid to Gwinnett BY CURT YEOMANS curt.yeomans@gwinnettdailypost.com

Secretary of State Brian Kemp told supporters in Peachtree Corners that the race for governor is about trust as his campaign for the state’s highest office passed through Gwinnett County on Monday morning. Kemp greeted about two dozen supporters during a breakfast-time visit to Atlanta Bread Company in The Forum. It’s part of his Putting Georgians First Bus Tour, which is visiting 50 counties in 10 days. In addition to the stop in Peachtree Corners, the tour also visited Cobb, Cherokee, Forsyth and Fulton counties Monday. But the secretary of state had a recurring theme, tied to the bus tour’s name, of course, and that was Putting Georgians First. “This race, to me, is really like ‘Who do you trust?’” Kemp said. “Who do you trust to actually do what they’re saying on the campaign trail? Gov. Casey Cagle, state Sen. Michael Williams, former state Sen. Hunter Hill, Gwinnett native and businessman Clay Tippins and former Norcross High School teacher Marc Alan Urbach. Kemp told the Daily Post promises by some of his opponents, including completely eliminating the state income tax, may not be likely to happen. “It’s like people have been talking about getting rid of the state income tax, and everybody that’s talking about doing that, they all served in the legislature and they haven’t gotten it done yet,” he said. “I mean it’s a hard thing to do, See KEMP, Page 3A
