Grayson Rep. Chandler’s boundaries questioned as part of federal lawsuit BY CURT YEOMANS curt.yeomans@gwinnettdailypost.com

Attorneys for a group led by former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder challenged the boundaries drawn in 2015 for a Grayson-based state legislator’s district in federal court Tuesday, arguing the changes diluted black voter strength. The lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court for Joyce the Northern District of Chandler Georgia specifically targets lines created two years ago for state Reps. Joyce Chandler, R-Grayson, and Rep. Brian Strickland, R-McDonough. The attorneys from Holder’s National Redistricting Foundation filed the suit on behalf of 11 voters from around metro Atlanta. See LAWSUIT, Page 7A

rish Lowrie isn’t the type of person to pass up the opportunity for a bit of fun — especially when it’s on the tennis court. Lowrie had recently joined a new tennis team and this wasn’t a tournament she wanted to miss. But she and her husband had just gotten back

Looking back, Lowrie said she realized tennis helped lead her toward a diagnosis. And through the next 13 months, the rhythmic swing of her racket and the camaraderie of her team helped guide her through the

fear that diagnosis brought. “It kept me sane during this,” she said. “Because I could come out to the court and I didn’t have to feel like ‘Cancer Girl.’” Lowrie said she knew the cancer diagnosis was coming as soon as she got the phone call from her OB-GYN about the mammogram she took on May 9, 2016. The doctor called the next day to say she’d found some spots that concerned her. “They’re not supposed to say ‘concerns,’” Lowrie said. “That’s one of those signs that

Gwinnett County commissioners approved a request for a farm-centric neighborhood on Lakeview Road near Grayson Tuesday, ending months of uncertainty over the project. The commission voted 4-1 in favor of the Bluedress Farm proposal, which would have as many as 45 homes with a central community-shared farm, a boathouse with a market for local produce and a coffee shop. Commissioner John Heard cast the only vote against the proposal. A decision on the neighborhood, also referred to as a “farmmunity,” had been delayed several times, first by the county’s See FARM, Page 7A
