A Message from the President I thought that Gwenddwr Show might have had enough of me after the last time I acted as President, forty-three years ago! I was therefore delighted when the Committee asked me to reprise the role for this year’s Show.

Of course Gwenddwr Carnival and Show is much larger now than it was in 1973, when only one field was used.

There was no bouncy castle or Pet Show in those days, though it was still Gerard Chichester, Gwenddwr Show President in very much an event for the whole 1973, crowning Jacqueline Jones Davies as the community. There had been a Pony first Queen, with Winston Jones preparing to Section from early on but the sheep present a bouquet. classes were only added in 1973. In 2016 there will be an enormous variety of competitions, exhibits and activities of interest to all ages. (Though I am still waiting for the Sports to include a race for the over-70s!)

We must all make a wish for Gwenddwr Show’s traditional sunny weather. I look forward to welcoming record numbers to what is one of the earliest village shows of the summer, and certainly one of the best. I hope that you will all enjoy it as much as I know we shall.

Rules ▪ Marquee opens for entries at 11am. No entries for marquee classes will be admitted after 1.15pm prompt. Exhibits will remain in the tent until 5pm after which the Committee will not be held responsible.

▪ If two exhibitors gain the same number of points for any cup, the cup will be presented to the exhibitor with the most entries in that section.

▪ All dogs must be kept on a lead.

▪ Please return all challenge cups to Celia Jefferies (01982 560356) by 10 July 2016.

▪ The Committee has taken all reasonable precautions to ensure the health and safety of everyone attending the Show. Neither the Committee nor the owners of the land on which the Show is held accept any liability for any accident, injury, loss or damage to any persons, stock or property, however caused.

▪ All individual exhibitors/demonstrators are responsible for their public liability insurance.

▪ The judges’ decisions are final. Objections can be given to the Secretary, in writing, within ½ hour of the judging and with a deposit of £5.

▪ All horses and ponies must be accompanied by passports.

▪ All sheep must be entered by Wednesday 27 July. All Sheep must be penned by 1.30pm.

Defra regulations state that sheep not previously entered will not be admitted to the show ground. Movement documents will be required to and from the show (ie: 2 forms). Individual ear tag numbers must be entered on movement forms. Please bring 2 movement forms with relevant sections completed. Please advise the Sheep Secretary if you are in Defra’s Scrapie Monitoring Scheme.

▪ Please remove all loose wool trimmings from the show ground.

Maedi Visna Section: This section is for fully Accredited sheep only.

1. All sheep exhibited in this section must be accompanied by a green Certificate of Status (SH20) or SAC Health Status Report.

2. Accredited sheep must be loaded and unloaded at point specified.

3. Accredited sheep must be halter led and there must be a two meter space maintained at all times between them and non-accredited sheep. Accredited sheep must not be transported in the same vehicle as non-accredited sheep.

The Gwynne Griffiths Tregaer Award Livestock Exhibitor of the Year Competition 2016, kindly sponsored by Mr Richard Griffiths. Cattle & Sheep Top Competitive Livestock Section Classes - to encourage the exhibition of prime cattle and sheep at Breconshire Shows, thereby supporting and promoting local agriculture. 1st Prize - £300.00, 2nd Prize - £200.00 both donated by Richard Griffiths, 3rd Prize - £75.00 donated by Brecknockshire Agricultural Society.

The Brecknockshire Agricultural Society Award Young Livestock Handler of the Year Competition 2016 - to encourage young handlers to exhibit their livestock at Breconshire Shows. Competition open to all sheep handlers 15 years and under. 1st Prize £40, 2nd Prize £30, 3rd Prize £20, 4th Prize £10.
